"Understand? Sam all I understand is you tried to ruin my marriage. Amber left me, did you know that? She left about a month ago, took Joey with her. Because of you."
Sam doesn't know what to think. "Why would she do that?"
Joe shakes his head. "Because she's a good person. She couldn't deal with the stress of "sharing" her husband anymore, so she left until the baby comes. She left and told me I had to stay here and take care of you and our daughter. God I feel so stupid. You fucking played me and now my wife is gone. How could I not see through you? Sam I'm trying so hard right now not to fucking hate you. But I'm not finding a reason I shouldn't."
Sam begins to cry harder. "Joe I'm so sorry. I can't say that enough. Please don't hate me. I was just trying to give my baby a better life, where she has a dad that loves her. I hope someday you can find a way to forgive me."
Joe laughs. "Don't count on it Sam. I hope you and Tony will be very happy. I'm done here."
Driving home Joe cusses himself for getting duped by Sam. He heads to see Jordan instead of going to his place.
"She did what?" Jordan yells, he's so angry at Sam. He just can't understand why anyone would do this. Why would she tell such a horrible lie? "Joe we've got to find Amber, bring her home where she belongs. She has to know the truth."
"She was texting me a couple of days ago. But now it's radio silence again. She's supposed to be bringing Joey to her parents but I have no idea when. Maybe they'll tell you when she's coming. I've got to see her."
Jordan pats Joe on the shoulder. "I'll take care of this."
The next day Jordan shows up at Joe's. "She's coming today. James said she'll be at their house in about an hour. Come on let's get over there."
----------‐---------------------------------------------------
3 years later..."HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!"
Joe almost screams, they scared the shit out him. He honestly wasn't expecting a surprise party. They just had the entire extended family over for Christmas, he thought for sure his birthday would be low key. No such luck, the gang's all here, along with spouses and kids too.
"Wow!! Thanks everyone. But you really didn't need to do this. It's too much. My poor wife must be a glutton for punishment or something." Joe says before he kisses her sweetly on the lips. His hand finding its way to her growing baby bump.
"We did have to do this. How often are you going to turn 45 old man? Plus you've been gone so much this year, I wanted to celebrate you, my love." Amber blushes when Joe kisses her again, much more passionately this time.
Amber's missed Joe while he's been out doing his solo thing. It's gotten a lot harder to go with him since the boys have gotten older. Little Joey's in Kindergarten and Nathan started Pre school this year. And now with number three on the way, it's just been easier, physically to stay home. Emotionally it's been way more difficult though.
After everything Sam put them through those years back, they've never taken their time together for granted. They're marriage and love only grew stronger after all she did to them. But there did come a time when it was just more responsible for Amber to be home with the boys. Joe never stayed away more than 2 weeks without a visit home for a few days. He had to finish up his last couple of shows between Christmas and New Year's and now he's home for good. Nothing scheduled now except waiting for baby.
"Well one good thing about you being gone so much, I was actually able to shop for you the perfect birthday gift. And I hate to brag, but I'm pretty sure this year's present will go down in the books as the most perfect gift ever."
Joe laughs. "Babe, I've already got everything I could possibly ever need or want. What could you have found that I don't already have?"
"Joey, Nathan bring your Daddy his present from Mommy. And everyone prepare to be amazed!!" The excitement in her eyes makes Joe that much more excited himself.
Joey and Nathan bring over a medium size box, with beautiful blue wrapping and bows. Joey sits it on his Dad's lap and Nathan steps forward asking if he can help.
"Sure son, but be careful."
Nathan rips all the paper off the box. Joe opens the box and starts pulling out tons of blue tissue paper. Joe's pretty sure what this means. Another son. He smiles at Amber not realizing she must have found out the sex of the baby. "I'm guessing this means we can stop calling him "Number 3" now?"
Amber shrugs.
Joe pulls out the last of the tissue paper and there at the bottom of the box is a tiny pink onesie that says "Daddy's Girl".
"A girl? Really? We're having a little girl?" Amber nods. Tears already filling her eyes. "Oh Amber." Joe jumps up and pulls Amber into his arm. "You're right, this is the perfect gift and something I don't already have."
