October 31st 1984
You sat on your couch, listening to the boys ramble on about tonights plan for Halloween as you fixed a busted seam in Wills costume.
"Thanks again for helping with that...I would have just made it bigger." Jonathan said as he bounced his leg up and down. You smiled over to him as you put the thread through the fabric again and pulled, "Anytime Jonathan. Will deserves to have a nice holiday for once..."
Jonathan nodded in agreement, both of you sitting in a comfortable silence until the boys conversation turned into an argument.
"No! She isn't a party of the party! No girls allowed remember?!" Mike shouted toward Lucas and Dustin while Will only sighed and sat down in a chair. "El was a girl and she was in our party!"
Dustin countered, crossing his arms as Mike scrambled to defend himself. "Well, El was an exception! She saved our lives!" You bit your tounge, keeping you promise to Hopper and mentally noting to visit them again soon even though you did last week.
"Seriously Mike?! You always do this! El this, El that! Now just because Max is cool and wants to join, you're getting all butthurt!" Lucas said with his usual determined outlook. It was hard for anyone to change his mind once he made it up. "Guys, can you please stop arguing?" Will begged, the boys ignoring him altogether.
Jonathan sighed and gave him a small smile as you tied off the stitch and stood from your spot. You clapped your hands loudly and glared at the bantering children.
"Okay, here is what's not going to happen. You are not going to argue over someone joining your party because you all need to be inclusive..."
Lucas and Dustin gave Mike a 'told ya' kind of look, but you snapped to gain their attentions once more. "...but you also aren't going to ditch your friends for a girl. Do we understand?"
The three boys sighed, mumbling a response as you took a few steps closer and leaned in. "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you...what was that?"
"Yes, (Y/n)." They groaned, a triumphant smile coming to your face as you looked over them and walked back to Will to hand him his costume. "Here, go change." He eagerly grinned and ran to the bathroom and closed the door.
You fell back down next to Jonathan and looked over to Dustin and Lucas as Mike wandered off to go reassemble the pack for his costume. "So...who's this Max that you two are so interested in?" Dustins face lit up like a Christmas tree and surprisingly so did Lucas'.
"Well her name is Maxine but-"
"She goes by Madmax and is a total badass." Dustin interrupted Lucas mid-sentance, you and Jonathan both chuckling at their display before Lucas started talking again. "She has this bright red hair and she is super pretty. Like, super goregous....but her step-brother is a major asshole."
Dustin let out a single breath of a laugh in agreement, "He is seriously a total douche." You looked to Jonathan who seemed to catch on as well, a curious look overtaking your expression as you clarified.
"Is her brother tall? Blond mullet? Wears tight jeans all the time?" You asked, "Does he give off jackass energy?" Jonathan asked, earning a laugh from you despite your growing friendship with the boy...more like class-talk-buddies than friends really.
Lucas and Dustin went wide eyed, "Oh yeah! He was the one you bitch slapped!" Dustin said with excitement, both of them laughing even more at the incident now they had realized. Jonathan nudged your arm, his brows raising with a grin on his lips.
"You will forever be immortalized as the girl who bitch-slapped Billy Hargrove."
As the four of you laughed, Mike came back and so did Will, all four of them now ready to go. You and Jonathan got them situated, taking a few pictures before opening the door for them.
