"If we knew you were coming up here we would have changed into some nicer clothes." You groaned, looking down at your comfy outfit that wasn't the most presentable thing on the earth. Billy wrapped his arm around you and placed a sweet kiss to your head at your insistence on a dress code.
His mother, however, only waved her hand in response. "Oh, please. The last thing a new mother has to worry about is her fashion choices. Wear whatever makes you comfortable dear." She said, glancing over to look at Jacob who was holding Luna comfortably against him as Chris was on his knees begging him to have a shot at holding her.
"Did you plan all this?"
Mary looked back to her son at his voice, unable to stop her smile when he saw how he was swaying you softly side to side as you yawned in his hold.
"From the moment you called and said she was born. Of course, the next day I naturally told your friends who were adamant on meeting their 'niece'." She chuckled and nudged her head toward the boys who were now carefully transferring Luna into Chris' arms like she was a fine piece of china.
"How was the flight?" You asked.
She huffed, "Good. There was a rather rude gentleman, but nothing I couldn't handle." There was a proud smirk that crossed her features - one that you instantly knew Billy took from his mother. Full of pride and confidence not even an earthquake could shake.
"I'm sure." Billy added, copying the look back in understanding.
"Billy?"
The boy looked down to see Max beside him, glancing over to his mother as his eyes widened in realization. With his free hand, he led her back so she stepped forward. "Oh, mom. This is Max."
The red-haired girl awkwardly stuck out her hand, not quite sure how to greet the mother of his step-brother. Mary simply took her in a gentle hug, "Hello, Max. It's very nice to meet you. I heard a lot of good things about you from the two of them." Her blue eyes gestured to you and Billy - the girl turning to squint at you both for a minute.
"All good things?"
"Don't get too ahead of yourself there, squirt." Billy laughed, watching her cheek flare a bright pink as she grumbled something and walked off.
There was a pause in the conversation as you all watched everyone around you talk. Chris was now easily holding Luna who seemed to be fascinated by the silly expressions he was making. Mary adjusted her blouse and hummed, "Well, I do hope I'm not intruding on any plans you might have..."
You wrapped your arms around Billy and pulled him closer, shaking your head before resting it on his chest. "We really only planned to watch a movie and have dinner together. Would you like to stay?"
Chris hustled over to the conversation with Luna smiling in his arms. "Uh...heck yeah! I gotta get my cuddle time in with little miss Lulu over here." He tickled her belly, making her squirm a bit before Jacob appeared behind him.
"I'd love to stay if you wouldn't mind...she is quite adorable."
You looked back to Mary who sent you a surprised glance in return. "Do you really need to ask me that? My granddaughter is here. Of course I'm staying as long as you'll let me!" Taking the baby from Chris, all three walked away and followed after Luna like she was the sun.
"We are one hundred percent chopped liver." You sighed, snuggling into your boyfriend's warmth.
He huffed, "Totally....At least we can be liver together." Squeezing you closer to him, he looked down at the sound of your laugh as your eyes met once more. The deep oceans of his eyes were swirling with love as he looked down at you.
