You stood at your locker with your head shoved into your books. The last thing you wanted to do was be at school today, but you convinced yourself that missing school wouldn't make matters any better. You were right of course until you saw him.
Billy bounded past you with a huff, his eyes only flicking over to you for a small moment to see if you were paying attention (which you were trying not to). Immediately whispers started circulating and not long after the bull had stomped on, a much gentler voice filled your ears.
"Uhm, hey (Y/n)." Jonathan greeted warily, watching the sour expression on your face slightly relax as you turned to him. "Hey Jon, whats up?" You asked, closing your locker as he quickly glanced around. "Did something happen between you and him?" He flinched back as you grumbled and tightened your hold on your books. "Oh yeah, something did happen..."
You sucked in a breath through your nose and got a bit closer to Jonathan, hoping that it would be a bit easier to keep it on the down-low. "...The other night there was a party and Billy played a drinking game and ended up kissing three girls, one of whom was Ashley." You grimaced, watching as Jonathans eyes went wide, "Are you serious?"
With a small nod, your insecurities hit you like a truck. You were fine with the drinking game, it was just for fun after all...but when the kiss got to Ashley, it lingered on for a bit too long for your liking, 15 seconds too long to be exact, so you stormed out and left. It was more than a kiss for a game and you knew Ashley wasn't even close to wasted.
"I just don't really want to talk about it." You muttered, switching from agressive and stand-offish to quiet and hurt in a matter of seconds. You started to walk to your first hour, knowing that it was a straight B-line past Billys locker which had what felt like half the girls in Hawkins standing around it. Keeping your head down, you pushed through the crowd, unaware of the sharp blue eyes that immediately recognized your face.
Billy was at a loss, this was the biggest and only fight he had ever had in a relationship. Of course the stupid game last night had him kiss Ashley, but he had no excuse for his actions and but the time he pulled away from her you were gone. You had locked and bolted your doors and windows shut, making sure that Billy couldn't get in even if he wanted to.
The boy sat on your garage roof almost all night to be beside your window. Even though your curtains were shut, he desperatley wanted to just forget the incident ever happened. But as more time passed, that sadness and regret festered into anger and resentment.
Why should he have to apologize to you? You said it was okay for him to play the game even though you knew what it meant!
He crossed his arms as his headache pulsed. The girls around him blabbered on as they tried to take a shot at the 'free' Billy Hargrove. Was he free? You hadn't actually broken up with him and surprisingly, Billy found himself dreading that thought alone.
"Hargrove."
The circle of blabbing girls was silenced by the sheepish Byers boy. His grip on the strap of his bag was deadly as he glared down Billy with a vengance. "What do you want freak?" Ashely said, butting into the circle to stand next to Billy. Jonathan didn't respond to her, instead taking a step toward the other male and scowling.
"If you don't want to be with (Y/n) anymore then tell her that." Jonathan demanded, watching the slight furrow in Billys brows as an indication that he did feel some emotion toward you still. "Who the fuck said I didn't want to be with her anymore Byers?" He snapped back in offence, ignoring the whines of the other girls around him.
"You know your actions are very visible right? You're standing here with the girl that is causing this problem like it's no big deal!"
"It isn't my probelm. (Y/n) shouldn't be such a bitch about it-" Billy responded, feeling the immediate regret fill his body as he caught a glimpse of you from the corner of his eye. Your expression was pained, eyes filling with tears as Jonathan then took notice of you. "J-Jonathan..." You breathed, feeling on the virge of a breakdown as you were once again embarassed in front of the whole school.
