Chapter 23: Wake Up

"FOUR NO!" I scream and that's when the other car hits us. Everything is in slow motion now, glass is floating everywhere in midair, the car wheels are spinning slowly, and Four and I are flying back in slow motion too. That's when I wake up. It was just a dream.

But then I realize I was in a hospital bed. I look around, where's Four? But I'm not alone, the whole gang is here, but they're all sleeping. I sit up and realize I'm in incredible pain and gasp/yell. That wakes everybody up.

"Tris!" Christina starts crying.
"What happened?" I ask right away. Everybody looks around. Zeke sits down and begins,"We were all watching the car chase in Dauntless Headquarters. And we were all pretty scared. We sent help right away, but they didn't get there in time before the crash." He explains.

"The crash?" I say confused.
"Yeah, the crash." he says. He sighs and continues, "The car was about to hit you, and probably kill you, but, b-but." he starts stuttering and tears start falling and he covers his face.
"But Four turned the car so it would hit him, not me." I finish.
"H-how did you know that?" Marlene says holding back tears.
"That's the last thing I remember." I whisper.

It's silent for a long time. Four saved me. NO! Tobias saved me. And I don't know what I'm going to do I treated him like a murderer just to have him save me.
"Where is he?" I whisper but it sounds more like a gasp.
"He's on life support in the room next to yours." Uriah explains.

That does it for me, that breaks me. I start to cry, not like I normally do I start to bawl uncontrollably, I can't take it anymore, it hurts my whole body to cry but it will kill me on the inside if I don't. Suddenly doctors come in and put a needle in my side and I fall asleep immediately.

Fours POV
(This is sort of like If I Stay)

I wake up next to my car which is totaled. I look around and there is an ambulance and then I see something that breaks my heart. Tris. She is lying on the ground with a ton of people around her, they carry her into an ambulance and drive away leaving me behind.

Thats when I see something really confusing. I see me, lying on the ground also. You can barely even recognize me with all the cuts, blood, and bruises. I see Evelyn crying on the side. I just made a deal with her that if I could come home to Tris I would treat her like a real mom, now I won't be able to do that.

They carry my body into an ambulance and this time I come with. I sit next to my body and a man who whispers in my ear, "It's all up to you Tobias, weather you live or die, weather you stay with your friends and family or if you leave them."

How do I have that choice? I want to stay with my friends and family.
"HIS HEART IS BEATING!" a man yells. The man who whispered in my ear smiles at my body, he knows I heard him, and he knows I want to fight.

Time Lapse

When they get to the hospital they rush me in. I follow and then I look through a window and see something horrific. I see Tris with people all over her doing surgery on her. Then I hear shouts down the hall and they all rush into my room.
"How did his heart start and stop so quickly?" One nurse says.

My heart must of stopped when I saw Tris. Then I see the doctor who whispered in my ear and see his name tag, his name is Amar. He walks over to the nurse who asked the question.
"His heart stopped right here." he says stopping right in front of Tris' door. Amar and the nurse look at each other nervously then they look at Tris.

I can't bear to look at her any longer so I run. I run down the halls of the hospital, then I find myself in the main entrance. I see the entire gang running in up to the front desk.
"Four and Tris!" Uriah and Zeke shout.
"I'm sorry but they are both in surgery." the lady says calmly. Uriah jumps at her and holds her by the collar of her shirt.

"WHERE ARE THEY!?" He shouts. Two security guards come and try to drag him away but he fights them and so do the others. Then they all get kicked out.

They sit at the front entrance waiting.
"Way to go Uriah." Lynn says coldly.
"Hey I was just trying to find my friends!" He shouts at her.
"Well maybe threatening a nurse isn't the best idea!" She shouts standing up. Uriah stands up to and it looks like they are about to kill each other.

Then Zeke grabs his brother and Shauna grabs her sister.
"Stop it! Both of you!" Shauna snaps.
"You're not helping anyone!"
Uriah and Lynn look at each other and their eyes soften, and they sit back down and Marlene and Christina start to cry.

I walk away from them but then I hear Evelyn.
"Get up." She says to them and they follow without a question. Evelyn walks into the hospital without even asking to come in. After all she is in charge of this place. She walks past Tris' room and stops.

A tear falls from her eye, I never knew she liked Tris, I guess they both missed me and that brought them together. When the gang sees her they start to cry. Luckily she is out of surgery. Evelyn continues and the group slowly follows.

When they see me, their reaction is the same as mine was. They can barely recognize me. Evelyn starts to cry and so do the rest. I just stare at my lifeless body.
"I'm going to go in Tris' room." Christina says weakly.
