Chapter 34: The Letter

Me and Tobias sit on the couch watching Psych when the doorbell rings.
"I got it." I say and get up. On the way I grab a huge slice of Dauntless cake. It's only been a month and I'm already having huge cravings.

I open the door and no one is there. Then I look down and see a package.
"Tobias did you order anything?" I ask which is a pretty dumb question cause we're still in the dauntless compound.
"No why?"
"There's a package." I say and he gets up and walks to the front door.

He studies it and looks for an address but there is none. Its literally just a box.
"It could be a trap." he says then takes out a knife and kneels by it.
"Listen I want you to go in the hallway so incase there is something in it you can get help." he instructs me and I do.

He takes the knife and basically stabs it into the box and cuts the tape and nothing happens. We both relax and he takes it to the family room and I follow.

I'm assuming it's some baby gift from a random Dauntless soldier congratulating us on the baby. When he opens it up I smile as I see a little baby bottle and note. But my smile drops right when I see what's in the baby bottle. Poison.

I gasp and cover my mouth tears flowing down my face. I can't breathe. I can't move. And neither can Tobias. With my hands shaking I grab the note and read it and so does Tobias, it's written in creepy letters all cut up like some serial killer would do.

Beatrice and Tobias,
You make a fine couple. I hope you like my baby gift to you. I'm sure you're child will love it. But let's get down to business, if you want your child to live past its first week I suggest you do exactly what I say. Tris you will need to meet me at 1:00 a.m. sharp on July 4, in one day at Dauntless High. And Tobias you can't stop her. You Tobias must make an agreement with your mother if she wants her grandchild to live. She must release every single Erudite.

When I finish reading it I burst into tears. Tobias holds me and I cry even more.
"Wha, what if it's, Ca Caleb." I cry,"What if he betrayed me again." I cry. He doesn't respond just holds me and rubs my back.

"We need to tell the others." He says after 5 minutes, his voice is scratchy and ruff. "We need to tell the others." he repeats quietly.

Time Lapse
Fours POV

"Shit." Zeke mutters. We just told the gang what happened and they're all pissed and worried. All the husbands and boyfriends are comforting there wife's and girlfriends except for Lynn. She's just sitting there with her fist clenched with a look of pure hatred in her face.

"Four can I talk to you?" She basically growls.
"Yeah." I say and leave Tris with Christina to comfort her. We turn the corner and she crosses her arms.
"Don't you know who did this?" She hisses.
"No they just said New Erudite Leader." I say.
"Think Four, think real hard." she hisses.

I look of confusion crosses my face and she smacks her forehead.
"Who is the only powerful Erudite that didn't get captured." She says rubbing her temples.
"Eric." I growl and storm back into the other room followed by Lynn.

"I think I know who did it." I say.
"Who?" Zeke and Tris say at the same time.
"Eric." I scowl.

Time Lapse

Tris and I lay in bed. Tonight Eric asked Tris to meet him at 1:00 in the morning. How could he do it on July 4? Who's that sick to make a meeting that involves death on a national holiday?

I can't sleep and I won't. I know what Tris is thinking. She promised me she wouldn't go, but I know she will. She is going to go, and I have to stop her and I will stop her. I look at the clock 11:30. I see Tris stir a little and sit up. I close my eyes and fake sleep hoping she will buy it.
"I love you." I hear her whisper and it sounds like she's been crying.

I listen to her footsteps then the door closes quietly. Right when it closes I spring out of bed and get ready. I have to save her from Eric.

Tris POV

I sneak out of the house. I wish I could kiss him one more time, just once more. I know this will be the end. I will die tonight.

I walk as swiftly and quietly as I can. I don't want to wake anyone or anyone to hear me. I sneak through the halls and decide to take the stairs to the back exit so no one will no I left.

I climb the flight of stairs and open the trapdoor. It is in the middle of the woods covered in leaves. Suddenly a cold gust of wind hits me and I wish I would've brought a jacket.

I look at my watch 12:30. Happy Fourth of July. I have 30 minutes to walk to Dauntless High and I barely know where I'm going.

Time Lapse

12:50. I'm almost there but I'm walking along side a highway. I start to run then sprint. I'm so tired but I keep running. For the baby is all I can think.

I finally get there at 12:55. I love around and see no one.
"Wow I thought you'd never make it." a cold voice says from behind me.
I turn around and see Eric.
