Chapter 13: Tobias

I'm so happy, I just recorded 20 of my songs and now I'm going to Dauntless' to meet up with Christina. I drive into Dauntless' parking lot and find a parking spot right next to Christina's car.

I walk in and see Christina, Will, and Al all sitting in the corner wear we normally sit. They wave to me and I order my food then walk over to them.
"Hey." I say.
"TELL US ABOUT THE RECORD DEAL!" They yell. I look around and see half the people here stare at us.
"SHHH." I whisper and then sit down.

I tell them everything that happened, from when Tori came to when I recorded the songs and they just sat in aww.
"So yeah." I say when I finish.
"TRIS YOUR GOING TO BE FAMOUS!" Christina says loudly. Then my song "Human" came on.

Time lapse

It's Sunday night and I really want to see Four. I know I shouldn't but I feel like I should apologize for what I said to him at the party. I only live a mile away and I know I could use the exercise so I walk.

When I finally get there I hear a cry of pain. I look around and think it was just a bird but I hear it again coming from Four's house. I run to the front door and ring the doorbell like 20 times. I hear someone running down the stairs and see Marcus.

"Beatrice are you alright?" Marcus says looking concerned.
"Yeah I'm fine I just heard a scream from upstairs." I say and am about to walk in when he stops me.
"Everything is fine." he says.
"Do you need anything?" He asks me.
"I came to see Four." I says plainly.
"Oh he's not here right now he's out with some friends." Marcus says.
"Can I take a message?" He asks.
"Yeah tell him to meet me at Dauntless' at 10:00." I say still looking upstairs.
"I will." he says with a smile. "Oh and congratulations on your record deal, I heard one of your songs on the radio." he says. I smile and completely forget about the screaming I heard.
"Thank you!" I say. Marcus smiles then closes the door.

I start walking away but turn around, there was another cry. I walked back to the house but this time I didn't go to the front door, I went around to the side of the house to where Four's room is.

I started to climb a large oak tree that was next to his window. I hid in the leaves but I could see through his window. What I saw was the most horrific thing. A bloody Four laying on the ground with Marcus above him shouting at him. He said he was worthless and didn't deserve to live, then he left.

I climbed onto the roof and knocked on the window frantically. Four looked up and his eyes filled with fear. He just looked at me, he didn't let me in or even move. Just stared at me with those deep dark blue eyes.

Finally he slowly got up and opened the window.
"Four!" I gasp and catch him before he falls. He's covered in blood head to toe.
"Tris you should get out of here." he says and then winces.
"Why would I do that? I mean look at you!" I say gesturing to his whole body.

"Don't worry-I'm used to- it." he says holding his side.
"Four, what happened?" I ask helping him to his bed. He looks at me and then looks down. Then he sighs, " Ever since I can remember, my father abused me, well he used to abuse my mom too till she died." he says with sorrow in his voice.

I look down too.
"That's what Nita threatened me with, she knew because she came over for a school assignment once, and saw my dad beating me. Then she said if I didn't kiss her right then and right there she would tell my dad about the party I threw when he was gone and show him pictures. And now I know why, she saw you coming and wanted you to think I was cheating on you, and it worked." he says.

"Four I'm sorry I should've trusted you." I say because I don't know what to say. We sit there on his bed side by side in silence.
"Tris, I love you and would never do anything to hurt you." he says putting one hand on the side of my face. Suddenly a tear falls from my eye and he wipes it away.
"Four I love you and will always trust you." I say. He sighs and kisses me.
"Don't call me that." he says pressing his forehead to mine.
"Call me Tobias."
