el was taken away at a young age where she then grew up in a lab. she only knows they took her away because she has powers.
at the age of 11 she made a run for it and ended up in an orphanage in chicago. chief hopper has always been building a case against doctor brenner who took el and so he adopted her.
but one day when brenner came back, he killed hopper to save el and then el killed him too.
his death hurt her deeply and now she lives with joyce and will byers.
mike always had problems at home. his father and mother always fought and a few years back, it turned into physical abuse from his father.
he despised mike and so he then only took his anger out on him.
