Two days later Nikol is still in his animagi form and refuses to leave the twins side. Elijah has been silent and according to Kiel, he is grieving.
"Why are we here?" Nael and Ilan have become recurring members of the group meetings. They were invited to a picnic Jenna was holding. Hope was the one who rented a spot in the picnic area for them. They were all asked to bring food to add to the table.
"Having fun. Is this your pet?" Jenna cooed seeing the little furball inside the basket.
"No, it's our Dad." Nael said with the straightest face and Jenna took it as a joke. "Can I?" Jenna was enchanted by the little creature. "He has attachment issues." Ilan warned handing it to Jenna. "A feisty one I see." Jenna chuckled as it started scratching her.
"What is his name?" Stefan picked it up from Jenna. "Flames." Ilan told him. Flames settled down in Stefan's arms but it's purple eyes were glaring at him. "Is he planning murder or something?" Damon joked. "Oh no. Maybe Flames is calculating how many minutes it would take to turn your brother into crisp." Stefan quickly passed the kitten to Bonnie. Bonnie was forced to pass it to Kiel and Flames relaxed in his arms.
"He knows how to scratch." Bonnie muttered stepping away from the vampires whose eyes were on the blood oozing from the deep scratches.
"We should have a midnight party." Kiel put the kitten back into the basket. "I am more shocked that we are having a picnic when two vampires are wanting to kill her." Damon whispered. "That shouldn't stop us from enjoying our youth." Josie and Hope joined them.
Hope's eyes stopped at the feline creature who was checking it's paw. Hope looked at Josie while Elena and Bonnie were busy taking pictures of the kitten.
"Flames?" Hope kneeled to take a closer look. The kitten stopped admiring its paws and looked at Hope. They all looked on as the kitten rolled it's eyes and turned its head away.
"Don't sass me you fire breathing furry little ball." Hope couldn't believe Flames is here. And rather than a depressing Flames he seems enjoying his feline time.
"It's magical?" Elena whisper yelled. "No wonder why he has so much attitude." The kitten hissed at Bonnie.
"How, who brought him here?" Hope knows that Nikol wouldn't trust his Animagus form with anyone.
"We did." Nael told her. "We are Ilan and Nael Malraux. Connect the dots." Ilan took Flames from the basket and the kitten started running around.
"His sons?" Hope asked hesitantly. "Oh, for the love of Merlin, they are dead." Ilan couldn't believe he supported his father's lie. Hope is family after all.
"Cousins?" Josie guessed. "He wasn't wrong. You are brilliant witches." Nael went to run after Flames.
The rest of the picnic went peacefully with the elders sharing embarrassing stories of the youngers, Damon joining the fun by teasing Stefan.
