It has been 5 days since Kyle has been bitten. Signs have gotten really bad and I fear the worst. His temperature is up the roof and he has been really tired. It is unclear as to how long he has left. We thought about giving him medicine but then we came to the conclusion that if he was dying, it would probably be a waste of the little health supplies we have. Emma has been so depressed, and we aren't sure what she might do when he finally goes.
"Do you want to swap yet?" Coen asks
"Maybe just a little further" I give him an answer that I don't think he is comfortable with.
"Alright, but we do have to swap at some point, okay?"
"Yeah, I know" He wants to give me time to sleep, while he takes over the wheel, but the truth is, I don't want to go back to sleep. I don't want to remember how lonely I feel again. He sits in the front seat.
"How's he holding up?" I ask Coen how Kyle is going.
"Nothing's changed much, except the fact that his temperature has gone up a notch"
"Hmmm" I don't know what else to say that I haven't already. I've learned to deal with things as they come.
"Look, I don't know how more longer he has before- you know"
"I don't know either, but one thing I know for sure is that he will fight it off for as long as he can. And if he doesn't, Emma will"
I keep driving until the big 'WELCOME TO PALMONT' sign appears.
"Here we are. Our next shelter" I tell everyone as they look up at the big city. Big city, small population. As we drive through the huddling crowd of zombies, Brianna leans out of the window, decapitating every zombie that tries to climb on board with an axe we picked up at a service station 2 days ago. Already, the once wooden handle is stained red. I park the car in a fire station and roll down the garage door. As I reach the bottom, I chop an arm off of a zombie.
"Oh well. it's not like you were doing any good with it" I murmur as I pick it up and drop it in the bin. There was already a car parked in here. Well if anyone was in here, they weren't staying. As we reach the top of the stairs Shayla shouts out;
"Clear!" and we all enter.
Kyle lies on the floor.
"Nice spot, I reckon we could spend the night here" Matt speaks
Suddenly, there is a noise coming from the next room. it is massive... and dark. Two shadows emerge from the dark. As they get closer, I realise who it is. I feel a pain in my temple area. I have been knocked out.
"That's for leaving me behind!" are the last words I hear before everything goes black.
