That night...
As I walked into the room, I could see lit candles everywhere. There were rose petals over the bed from the rose bush outside, and even though they weren't really red, it was still a beautiful thought. On the floor, there were wooden planks from the barn lying in a straight line next to each other. Two plates were on either side accompanied by a wine glass and utensils. Cushions from the bed were placed at each end.
"Wow" I felt tears pushing their way out of my sockets. "It's beautiful"
"For a beautiful girl"
"Since when did you talk all romantic?"
"Since I met you"
I smile "What is all this for?"
"Well, as you know, it's the last day we have on the farm. On a comfortable bed and a roof over our head. So, I thought I would do something special"
"It is special"
"Sit on this pillow"
"Ok"He took a seat on his own pillow and grabbed something from the gap under the closet. Wine. The red liquid splashed into the clear glass. I grasped it and held it to my mouth. My eyes close as I remember the last time I had something like this. At Christmas we would always have this drink. Grapetiser. I would always go back for more. My mum would say to save some for everyone else, but it was just so good. Now, I don't have to worry about sharing. I have no one left. No one to share it with...
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah, just old memories"
"Hey, don't worry. The army said we would get them back as soon as we kill all the zombies. We are going to kill them. We will get our family back"I find the strength to smile, and Matt is pleased by this.
"I'll be back"
"Sure"He tip-toes out of the room and the air feels colder. I quietly walk over to my bag and pull out a warm cardigan. My body temperature becomes warm again and I sit back down. My hand stretches out to pick up one of the rose petals from the floor. Rubbing my thumb around on it, I feel the soft, velvety texture. I place it back on the bed. The door creaks open and Matt pops in holding a tray of two courses. Dinner and Desert.
"Mmm" I sniff the scent wavering from the meal.
"Curry" He cheersThe chicken and the rice is covered in a curry sauce.
"Can't wait to eat it"
"I hope it tastes good"
"It looks good"He swaps the plates over. I wait for him to sit down before I try it. He stares at me anxiously, which makes me uneasy. The flavours burst in my mouth and a good sensation spreads.
"That is delicious!"
"Really?"
"Yes!"
"Wow. I can actually cook"
"Try some"He puts a spoon of it in his mouth and nods. "Meh. It's okay"
"Okay?! It's great! How did you make this"
"I followed a recipe"
"Smartass"He chuckles and we keep eating.
After ten minutes, we let our stomaches settle before moving onto desert. To make time fly, we start up a conversation.
"Remember that time Emma lost her shoe and her and Kyle had a fight over it?"
"Haha, yes! Then they ended up dating anyways" I giggled
"And the time we all got drunk and you stripped to your underwear"
"Shh! I'm trying to forget that"
"Hey, you looked good"
"Even so, Brianna and I were the only ones who did it. None of the guys did"
"I can make it up to you" He winks
I smirk and he stands up.He takes his top off. He then walks over to me and caresses my neck.
"Mmm"
He comes to the front of me and takes off his shorts. He goes to take his underwear off, but he stops.
"I'll finish after desert"
"You're really going to leave me hanging?"
"Yep"
"Evil"
"No, you're evil. You aren't showing off any of your body"
"Maybe later alligator"He hands me a glass bowl with cream covered in mixed berries and sliced banana.
"This looks amazing"
"Let's hope it tastes amazing"
"Fingers crossed"
"Smart ass. You're supposed to be enthusiastic"
"I was only joking"The berry's flavour blasts. It does taste amazing.
"Any good?"
"Yes!"
"That's good"When we finish, we start from where we left off.
