TW⚠: Torture
I didn't know how long I had been in there for but eventually, our conversation died down. There was no light in the cell so I felt like any concept of time was stolen from me. It was cold so at some point, I and Murphy had huddled together to keep warm. Suddenly a loud gust of wind followed by a loud crash came from just outside the door. "It sounds like there's a storm." Murphy guessed. We sat close to each other for another ten minutes or so before the door unlocked and swung open. It took me a moment for my eyes to adjust to the light but once I did I saw two large men standing stoic in front of us. Both had long hair braided atop their heads and scruffy beards accompanied by some sort of war symbol tattooed on their foreheads. I felt Murphy scramble as further away against the wall as he could, he was terrified of them and that terrified me. "Stand!" I thought they didn't speak English. Neither of us moved so instead the two men each leaned down grabbing both of us by an arm up onto our feet. The chain was removed from our wrists. The door violently swung on its hinge due to the strong winds and banged against the wall, I seemed to be the only one scared by the noise as I just about jumped out of my skin.
The grounder holding my arm harshly pulled me towards and out the door. I immediately felt the cold wind and rain thrash against my skin, goosebumps appearing on my arms. I heard Murphy arguing and struggling as he was pulled behind me, I looked back at him as if to tell him to stop. The grounders were at least double his size so fighting them would only make this worse. I could barely see a few feet in front of me through the curtain of rain but I eventually saw what we were being taken to. Two large wooden poles stood tall in the centre of the area. Before I could react I felt my hands once again be tied together by a rope in front of me and then lifted above my head. I attempted to wrestle away but I was too weak. I looked up at my hands and saw that my hands were now also tied to the post. Murphy in the same situation just a few feet away from me. Soon enough we were left alone in the cold, tied to a post that we couldn't get free from.
What the fuck are they doing? They can't just leave us out here, we will freeze to death! I looked over to Murphy who was looking at me with concern. "It'll be ok May, just stay strong." I nodded to him to show I understood. I felt bad that we were going through this together yet he was the one comforting me, I felt guilty that I couldn't do the same for him. I adjusted my feet so I was in a more comfortable position, the knot around my wrists was tight and I could feel the rope scrape away at the skin. I was so cold I could feel my muscles start to stiffen as if I was frozen in place, the rain felt blistering against my exposed skin. After a while I felt numb to the bone, I even began to feel numb emotionally and I couldn't think straight. I ended up slumping down against the wood and most of my body weight was being held up by my wrists. I closed my eyes to rest them, I didn't think I would manage to stay awake much longer. "Don't close your eyes." I opened them again and looked over at the boy tied up next to me. "If you fall asleep it will make it harder for you to stay alive." I stared at him with disbelief, "How do you know all this?" I asked. "They did this to me the first night here, we could be here a while..." I felt a collection of unshed tears form in my eyes. "What do they want from us?" He looked hesitant to tell me. "They want information. Anything they can use to take down the rest of the hundred." I gulped.
My legs were tired and everything was numb, my clothes were soaked through and my fingers were turning blue. The storm had finally started to pass and the decrease in rain density allowed me to see further. When I looked around I noticed we were in some sort of village, there were small huts and buildings all around and to my right, I saw a small farm, only big enough to grow some crops but it was still there. I loud crash sounded from the other side of the village. I looked over and saw a large man, much like the two from before, he was dropping tools and what looked like armour into a pile just outside a building. What was this place?
