Chapter 17: Stay

When I said Mom's gonna love Jeongwoo, she really does. Like Jeongwoo was her long lost son that she finally met after seventeen years. They were talking and laughing nonstop while we're eating our lunch in our backyard. He actually looks more comfortable right now that he was two hours ago. Seems like he already got my Mom's heart. And it was nice.

"So what are you going to take up in college, Jeongwoo?" Mom asked.

"Umm...I'm going to take a medical course because I've always wanted to be a surgeon someday." Jeongwoo answered politely.

Everytime he said that, I always imagine him wearing a white coat and attending to his patients with a delicate smile and a soothing deep voice. I am so excited for him to reach his dreams!

"Wow. That's nice. Are you planning to study here or you'll study abroad?" Mom asked. And that hits me. I didn't think about it before but since Mom brought it up, what if he chooses to study abroad?

Jeongwoo gives me a weird look. I don't want to make him feel uncomfortable so I smile at him. Even though I got scared when he looked at me like that. It feels like, he's keeping something from me.

"I want to study here." Jeongwoo finally answered.

I'd like to believe his answer just to put my heart at ease. But the more I think about it, the more I get worried. What if...Just what if it happens. What will happen to us?

Maybe I was thinking about it too much that I forgot we're actually in the middle of our lunch. And Mom's calling me already but I didn't noticed because I was too occupied with those new worrisome thoughts in my head.

"Let's go get the dessert." Mom said then we excused ourselves after that. "He's a nice guy. I like him." Mom told me as we're walking down the kitchen.

I smiled at her. "Thank you, Mom."

"You don't really have to thank me for that. You're so lucky to have him. And he's so lucky to have you too." She said.

Somehow, Mom's approval makes me forget about those new thoughts in my head. We got the dessert from the refrigerator which is a home made creme brûlée with blueberry and strawberry jam. It's Asahi and I's favorite!

Jeongwoo and Asahi were talking when we came back to them. They're even laughing so I assumed that they're okay now. I know Asahi's just faking his stringent treatment towards Jeongwoo. But the truth is, they're really close with each other. I saw it that night at Teume High. I saw how he's close with his friends and how he loves them all.

"Wow. This is so nice. Auntie, did you make it?" Jeongwoo asked Mom.

"Oh, no. Asahi actually made it." Mom said. I was surprised to know that. I thought Mom made this.

"Yow! You really love me. You even made me my favorite dessert. Thanks, Hyung." Jeongwoo said.

"Creme brûlée is your favorite too?" I asked Jeongwoo.

"Yes. Especially with mango and strawberry." He said smiling at me.

"Oh! I haven't tried mango but strawberry is my favorite too!" I said excitedly.

"For your information, I made it for me and Asami." Asahi said. But Jeongwoo doesn't seem to buy that anymore. He just gave Asahi at mocking smile.

We ended up having a very nice and wholesome lunch. It's time to clean the table and Jeongwoo and I volunteered to wash the dishes. Mom's a little bit hesitant to allow us but she still does.
