As the sun rose on Petalburg City, Ashlyn found herself being awoken by a crying Sobble who Pikachu and Eira were trying to comfort, as she felt her eyes start to water she slowly walked towards her and picked her up trying to ignore her stinging eyes
"Hey Sobble what's wrong?" Ashlyn asked as she cradled the little water type to her chest, who just pointed towards the door where Decidueye was peeking in "It's alright it's just Decidueye and I'm sure he didn't mean to scare you"
"Sorry but ms. Caroline said that breakfast is ready" Decidueye said bowing his head
"It's alright Decidueye and thank you," Ashlyn said before got her sleeping robe before she went toward her sibling's rooms to wake them up before heading to the kitchen where she saw her aunt Caroline cooking pancakes
"Happy Anniversary auntie Caroline" Ashlyn greeted with a smile
"Oh thank you, dear," Caroline said with a smile that was a little too big
"Um do you need any help at all?" She asked again feeling at little less comfortable
"Oh don't worry sweetheart auntie is just fine" Caroline said just as Alain walked in "Why don't you and Alain head into town and stock up on your supplies I sent 5000 pokedollars to your trainer card so it would be better if you would stock up now while you can"
"Well that was strange" Ashlyn said before she put on her shoes and picked up Sobble while Alain took Eira who was still a Vulpix into his arms
"So do you have any plans for your match against your uncle?" He asked as they made their way towards the Pokemart
"At the moment I don't have nearly as many strategies as I'd like" She sighed before they walked into the Mart
"Want any help?" He offered as he grabbed a basket
"I wouldn't mind but I feel like I have to do this on my own" Ashlyn said before she noticed that Pikachu had snuck some ketchup into the basket Alain was holding "Pikachu you know if you want anything you'll have to ask first"
"Sorry Ashlyn" the electric mouse said making Alain chuckle when he noticed that Eira was also looking a little embarrassed as she dragged a bag of freeze dried Pecha Berries
"It's fine besides they deserve it" Alain said before they resumed their shopping after Alain placed the bag of berries into his basket and decided to go to the Pokemon Center to ask Nurse Joy a question
"Oh uncle Norman? What are you doing here?" Ashlyn asked making Norman and Nurse Joy look at her nervously
"Oh hey sweetie I'm just finishing up my present for your aunt Caroline and also making sure my pokemon were doing just fine so where were you?" He asked smiling
"From the Pokemart why?"
"Oh nothing well I have to go, see you back home sweetie" he said before running out making Ashlyn and Alain look at his retreating back funny
"What is happening?"
After finishing their shopping and went back home only to see May and Max with tears in their eyes as they ran towards them
"What's wrong?" Ashlyn asked worried and confused
"Mom said she was going to leave dad?" May cried shocking Ashlyn and Alain
"What?! Why?!"
"She said that dad has been cheating on her with Nurse Joy" Max cried as he buried his face into Ashlyn's jacket " Daddy wouldn't do that would he?"
"Huh?" Ashlyn asked confused before she started to understand the situation "May, Max uncle Norman has been going to nurse Joy to prepare his anniversary gift for aunt Coraline"
"What?" The siblings exclaimed
"Uncle Norman's gift to aunt Caroline was a fireworks display and a family dinner in the greenhouse. Petalburg City's Nurse Joy just so happens to have talent for fireworks" Ashlyn said
" Ah! That means we need to stop mom from leaving" May exclaimed before she and Max ran towards where their mom went
"Not following?" Alain asked as he followed Ashlyn into the house
"No I have full faith that everything is going to work out just fine. Do you think you could help me with dinner?" She asked smiling
"Qui madame" he said smirking
That night just like Ashlyn said everything worked out after May and Max got their parents to talk allowing Norman to explain his side of the story before having a minor panic attack about forgetting to prepare dinner only for them all to see Ashlyn and Alain setting an outside dinner near the green house
"Thanks sweetie" Norman said hugging Ashlyn making her giggle
"You're welcome I thought that you'd be slightly busy so Alain and I prepared dinner for you" she said smiling as she hugged her God father back
"Still I owe you" he said scratching the back of his head sheepishly
"Just don't hold back tomorrow when we battle" Ashlyn said before she walked over to Alain who was holding onto Eira and Sobble for her
"Got your team ready for tomorrow?" Alain asked her as she got Sobble from him
"Yeah although Bella seems to be a little too excited" she said sitting next to him
"Well this is sort of like a test for her" he said smiling
"I really hope that I'll be good enough this time" she whispered but Alain still heard her
"What do you mean by that?" He asked
"Well you see ever since I turn ten, uncle Norman would often offer me a chance to challenge him in an official gym battle and even if I declined I still wanted him to battle with all he has I never wanted him to hold back just because I'm his god daughter and he didn't which I appreciate but I continued to lose everytime I accepted his challenge even when Lucario evolved from Riolu" Ashlyn sighed before smiling "But I know that this time I'll have a better chance"
"When was the last time your uncle challenged you?" He asked curiously
"The day before we left for Little Root town I almost won back then but uncle's Slaking was just too bulky and strong" She said smiling sadly
"Well you definitely have grown as a trainer in the months after you and your siblings left home. You have gained experience and even more knowledge on how to be better as well as beaten six gym leaders. I believe that your more than ready"he said smiling at her
"Thank you Alain I didn't realize that I needed to hear that so bad" Ashlyn said as they heard the fireworks being launched "Coming from you that mean a lot"
"You're welcome-" he said before he felt her kiss his cheek then watched her walk towards her siblings who were excitedly watching the Beautifly shaped fireworks "Oh Mon Arceus, maman what am I going to do?"
