It was real nice of y'all to invite me over tonight." James greets Joseph and Rachael Greene, Josiah's parents.
"We are glad you could come. It was time with our children courting. Tonight seemed good with Sarah out." Joseph responds.
"Yes. You have raised a real gentleman in Josiah."
"Thank you." His dad replies. "It is the best thing you can hear about your child."
"Sarah is a sweet and loving girl that we look forward to getting to know better." Rachael adds.
"Thank you. I am amazed I was able to raise her so well without her momma." They sit in the Greene's living room and Joseph places his hand on his shoulder.
"I can't imagine how hard that was and how hard this is."
"Yes," he pulls in a breath getting his emotions back under a fragile control. "That is the only thing that worries me about Sarah and Josiah. I don't want him to be hurt if.." he can't finish that thought aloud.
"We have the same concerns and had a long talk with him about it. I even asked him if he would feel the same way without her cancer. He prayed on it and followed God's guidance. He knows his heart and, if the worse was to happen, I don't think he will regret loving her." Joseph answers.
"Oh I can see how much he loves her and how much she loves him. I just pray they have the chance for a long future together."
"That is a prayer we share. You are both in our prayers and we are here for anything you need."
"Thank you. I appreciate you both. I need to get home to Sarah now." They stand and Rachael hugs him while Joseph shakes his hand. "I wouldn't rush off by the home health care nurse is coming by to place an IV to restart her antibiotics."
"Understand. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for y'all." Joseph reinterates as he walks him to the door.
"I will. Thank you guys again."
When he pulls up in front of the house, he isn't surprised to see Josiah"s truck. He knows he won't leave Sarah alone. He walks into the house and doesn't see either of them and that is a surprise. Hurrying upstairs, he finds his daughter asleep on her bed with Josiah asleep in the chair beside her. He watches them with a lump in his throat. It is bittersweet to see such devotion from the man destined for my daughter.
With a sigh, he walks over and wakes Josiah. " What? Oh, I fell asleep. Sorry sir. Ah- Sarah did the same on the way home. I didn't want to wake her so I carried her to bed. I didn't want to leave her alone so I set her and fell asleep. Sorry sir."
"No reason to be sorry. Are you apologizing for taken care of my daughter?"
"No sir. For fallen asleep on the job." He smiles.
"You are fine, Josiah. I had a good time with your parents. I am almost as impressed with them as I am with you."
"That's... Thank you sir."
"Nothing but the truth."
"Is Sarah"s nurse coming by today?"
"Yes. She has to start a new IV. Eric wants to make sure the levels of antibiotics stay stable."
"Would you mind if I stayed around. I would like to know who is taken care of her."
"That would be fine. I am sure that Sarah will want to tell you goodnight anyway."
