Sarah has to go to the doctor and have a blood draw to check her electrolytes levels. It is a really good thing that she doesn’t mind needles.

“What if the levels are off?” she asks Tina. She had come by to do a checkup.

“It would depend on how off they are. It might involve hospitalization iv fluids here or, it might be able to be fixed with supplements. If they are to far off, we might have to delay a treatment or two.”

“Oh, I really don’t want that. As much as I hate them, I want them over and done with, not dragged out.”

“That is what we want too. “

The next day, Josiah and her are off to the doctor. Her daddy has to be at the garage.

“Sarah, please come back with me.” The lab tech leads her to the back.  “Okay Sarah you know the routine. Big stick.” She draws five vials of blood and then directs  her back to the waiting room to await the results.

Dr. Saunders directs then both into his office a half hour later.

“Sarah, your levels are off. Your potassium and calcium are way down. We need to get them back up before we can do the next treatment. This being Tues, we will re-check on Friday. In the meantime, I am starting you on supplements and have Tina give you some calcium and potassium via IV. Any questions?”

“What happens if her levels aren’t up on Friday?”

“Then we place her in hospital and get them up. We can’t delay treatment to long.”

“Okay, so pills and IV treatment at home. Can handle that.”

“I know you can. You are a very strong lady. Get this filled today and start them,” he hands her the two prescriptions, “Tina will be by today at seven to give you the first IV treatment. We will see you back here Friday.”

“Thank you Dr. Saunders.”

“You are very welcome. You are in my prayers.”

“Thank you.” Josiah replies.

“Hi. I have some prescriptions to fill.” She hands them across  with her insurance card.  She looks up to take them and sees the cap on her head and what it is covering up. She gives her the look. The ' poor girl has cancer' look.

She tries not to let it bother her. But it does. Josiah catches the look and tenses up behind her. “It will be around ten minutes.”

“That is fine.” She takes Josiah’s hand and leads him away before he says something to her “Let’s go look around. Check out the scarves and hats.”

They head over to look at them. Sarah plays around with some of the sun hats. “How does this one look?”

“It looks good. But, I think everything looks good on you.” He replies.

She rolls her eyes. “Okay, so let’s find someone less biased.” She spots a lady in the same aisle watching them with a smile. “Ma’am may I trouble you for an honest opinion about how I look in this hat?”

“It frames your face nicely.”

“Thanks. Okay Josiah, we have to get it.”

‘Okay baby.”

She picks out a couple more scarves  and the sun hat and they head back  to check on the prescriptions.

“Sarah Rose,” she tells the lady at the window,” are my prescriptions ready?”

“Hold in one second. Yes. Here you are Sarah.” They pay for them  and the hat and scarves and head home.
