He pulls into the driveway. He had driven home on autopilot. He is so distracted that it takes him a moment to realize that there is another car in front of his house. As he exits the car, two ladies get out.
“Good morning James,” Beth's mom, Grace says.
“Oh, good morning Grace. Sorry. My mind is a million miles away. Who is your friend?”
“James, meet Rachel. Rachel, James. She is Sarah's friend, Josiah's mom. We have brought you breakfast.”
“Y'all didn’t have to do that. But thank you.”
“We needed to something. We knew you wouldn’t have time to cook and would pay little attention to your needs. You must stay strong for here.” As she speaks, she and Rachel remove several dishes from the backseat.
“I hadn’t even thought of breakfast.” He admits.
“I bet you didn’t eat much yesterday either?” guesses Rachel as she and Grace follow him up the front steps.
“Guilty,” His laugh is a bit shaky. “I can’t remember eating anything.”
“We are here just in time.”” Grace replies as they follow him into the house
“If you ladies will excuse me, I need to take a quick shower.”
“Not a problem. We will get this set up.” Grace leads Rachel unto the kitchen.
After he showers and eats a huge helping of the food that the ladies had prepared, he feels slightly more human, more himself.
“Thanks so much y'all. I had no idea how much I needed that.”
“You are very welcome. We have a group of ladies that will be making you and Sarah's meals as long as you need us.” Assures Grace.
“That is very sweet of you.”
“If you feel comfortable leaving a key, we have a bunch of microwave meals made up.”
“Here you go,” James hands her a key,” I fully trust you.”
“Thanks. Is there is anything that you or Sarah specifically like or something she can’t have, just let us know. Or, if there is any other way we can help.” Rachel says as she cleans off the table and puts away the left overs.
“Y'all are angels. Thanks.”
“We will leave you to do what you need to do.” They hug him goodbye.
After they leave, James sits for a moment in silence. He is comforted by the love shown by the ladies. He gathers that comfort and strength around him as he prepares to go to Sarah's school and make public whst has happened.
The prayer group meet at the front of the school. They know Mr. Rose is coming in to meet with the administration. They decided to give him their support.
“Hi guys. Are you looking for me?”
“Yes sir,” responds Josiah. “ We know why you are here this morning. We wanted to give you are support.”
“We are also wondering how Sarah is.” Beth adds.
“If y'all can direct me to a more private place, I will tell you.”
“Oops.”
“This way sir.” Josiah leads them into an empty classroom.
“It is okay Beth. I know you are wotried about her. She was able to eat this morning and her pain was under control. She was asleep when I left.
”
“That is such a relief.”
“I appreciate your support but, I don't want you to miss class.”
“It is okay. We all have an empty first period today.”
“Good. Two of your mom's, Josiah’s and Beth's, brought me breakfast this morning. It is obvious where your giving spirit comes from..” Beth and Josiah smile proudly.
“Thanks sir. What time is your meeting?” Josiah asks.
James checks his watch. “In five minutes.”
“Would you mind if we said a quick prayer?”
“No, that would be good.”
They all six join hands and pray for Good's wisdom over the coming meeting and His peace over James. After, they walk towards the office.
