Morgan's POV
I hate flying.
Which is kinda ironic considering that I make a live out of designing them and all that stuff. Luckily this one won't take much longer until I land on Oregon. Elizabeth was persistent on me traveling in her private plane but I turned down the offer, I rather a commercial flight than taking advantage of her kindness... of course that when I told her that she thought I was being ridiculous. However at the end she gave in on trying.
Once the plane finally arrived in Portland I couldn't contain my excitement as I didn't want to be inside it for any longer. The wait for my luggage was torture, it took almost an hour for me to get it and when I did I couldn't seem to find my dad — who was supposed to pick me up. I called him a bunch of times until he answered and we agreed to meet up at the exit of the airport.
"There's my girl!" My dad exclaimed and engulfed me into a big hug. "Hey happy feet."
"Hey old man." I laughed at the nickname and hugged him back but it was with nearly no as much strength as him.
"Hey! I'm not that old," he complained when he broke the hug.
"You definitely are, you even have grey hairs now." I teased him.
"You know what, you can walk your way back to Jerome." He turned around and started walking away.
I went to him and jumped on his back, "I missed you dad," I said as he laughed.
"Me too kiddo now get down, come on." He chuckled and grabbed my bags from me, "As you said, I'm not as young anymore."
"Yet you're still a firefighter."
"Don't remind, your mother has been pushing on the retirement subject for a while now. I'm not even that old for retirement, I'm fifty." He opened the car once we got to it and went to put the bags on the trunck.
"Well she has a good reason, she doesn't want anything happening to you dad, none of us do, especially not after the accident with your leg months ago." I tried to reason with him as we entered the car.
"Yeah and who pays the bills if I retire Morgan? Who pays for Matthew's college in the future? I won't let your mom carry that responsibility on her own." He stated as he started the car.
"I can help with everything dad! I'm basically loaded with how much I make in this job. I can take care of you and mom and Matthew without any struggle."
"I'm not letting you do that Morgan, we are your parents is our responsibility to take care of you and now of Matthew. Not the other way around honey..." he sighed, "Let's discuss this another time, okay?"
I sighed and reluctantly nodded.
This surely won't be the last time we discuss about this, I'll make sure of it but first I need to talk about it to my mom.
"Matthew misses you, you know?" My dad looked at me briefly before looking back at the road.
"I would be sad if he didn't."
I missed my little brother as well. I still remember two years ago when my parents called me one day to tell me about him. They had adopted him after my dad got him out a fire, apparently he lived there with an uncle in the appartment that caught fire and well, the man didn't make it out of the fire and in short my dad took him in since he didn't have any other relative and also my dad didn't want him to go into the system — of course after some time my parents as well as Matthew grew too attached and they decided to adopt him.
He's a sweet six year old kid and we get along perfectly, I always make sure bring him a gift whenever I see him. I'm glad my parents have him now, I know they were lonely after I left for colleges.
