LISA'S POV
Jennie was still on top of me. She was staring straight into my eyes, and the intensity of her gaze made me feel small, shy, and suddenly very aware of how close she was.
My heart was pounding so loudly I swore she could hear it. Unable to handle it, I quickly turned my face to the side, hiding behind my hair.
I heard her soft chuckle above me, warm yet teasing.
"Why are you so clumsy, Lili?" she whispered, her voice low, almost like she was enjoying the moment.
I swallowed hard, trying not to make eye contact.
"You're late," she added, her tone shifting back to that cold, serious Jennie she always showed me at work.
"Huh? Oh! Right... uh..." My mind scrambled for an excuse.
Do I tell her the truth? That someone had been following me outside?
No... she'd probably think I was just making things up.
"I was uh... I got lost. Yeah, lost," I blurted out awkwardly.
Jennie tilted her head slightly, studying me with narrowed eyes, as if she didn't fully believe me, but she nodded anyway.
Before either of us could say anything else, there was a knock on the door. The sudden sound made me panic, and in my flustered state, I pushed Jennie off me too hard.
"OW!" she yelped as she hit the floor, glaring up at me with a pained expression.
"Sorry! Go get the door," I whispered nervously as I scrambled to my little desk in the corner.
Jennie insisted I have a desk in her office so she could "keep an eye on me." At first, I thought it was sweet. Now, I wasn't so sure.
Jennie stood up, dusting herself off, and walked to the door. She opened it, and the voice that came through nearly made my eyes pop out of my head.
"Taehyung!" Jennie said, surprise lacing her tone. She stepped back automatically as the tall, sharp-looking man entered her office.
Before I could process who he was, he pinned Jennie to the wall and kissed her.
My jaw dropped.
What the heck?!
Umm... does he not see me sitting right here?
"AHEM! AHEM!" I coughed loudly, okay, more like choked dramatically, trying to get his attention.
His head snapped in my direction, and his eyes widened when he finally realized we weren't alone. He quickly pulled away from Jennie.
My eyes flicked toward her, and I noticed something unexpected. Her expression wasn't happy. She looked... disgusted. That tiny detail made me secretly giggle behind my hand.
"Sorry, but who are you?" he asked, his voice low but demanding.
"I'm Lisa Manoban, Ms. Kim's intern," I said quickly, standing up straighter.
His brows furrowed. "Since when did Ms. Kim hire an intern?" He looked between me and Jennie, suspicion clear in his eyes.
"And who are you?" I shot back, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm Kim Taehyung, Ms. Kim's boyfriend," he announced confidently.
My eyes widened. "Oh... cool?" I replied awkwardly, though inside my head it was chaos.
Jennie has a boyfriend?
Since when?!
He narrowed his eyes at me. "No offense, but why are you here? Like, you're just an intern. Why are you sharing the world's best CEO and businesswoman's office?"
I sighed quietly, resisting the urge to roll my eyes. "I don't know. Maybe you should get that fixed," I muttered under my breath.
To my shock, he snapped his fingers like he'd just discovered something brilliant.
"You're right!" he said, nodding enthusiastically.
I blinked. Was this guy serious?
"Well... I guess I should leave now and let you two have some privacy," I said with forced cheer, already heading for the door.
But before I could escape, Jennie's hand shot out and grabbed my arm.
I turned around slowly, and there she was, her face completely blank, no expression at all.
"The papers," she said coldly.
I looked down. The documents I'd worked so hard to retrieve earlier were scattered everywhere from when we fell.
My shoulders slumped. "Right..." I whispered.
I bent down and began picking them up, my hands shaking slightly. That's when I felt it a single teardrop falling onto the floor. My breath caught in my throat.
Am I... crying?
I hadn't even realized it until now. I came here for an internship, for experience, for learning. Not to be treated like a servant, not to be caught in this confusing mess. And especially not to be made to feel so small.
Why was Jennie treating me like this?
I could feel their eyes on me, Jennie's unreadable, Taehyung's smug. That only made it worse.
I quickly wiped my cheeks with the back of my hand, sniffing quietly so they wouldn't notice. Once I gathered all the papers, I stood up, forcing a smile onto my face as I handed them to Jennie.
"Here," I muttered.
Taehyung smirked at me, and I wanted to scream. Ugh.
I left the office and walked down to the lobby, trying to calm my breathing. But as I walked, a sharp sting pricked my finger. I looked down and realized I'd gotten a paper cut, an ugly, deep one.
It was bleeding more than I expected.
"Perfect," I muttered sarcastically, sighing heavily.
Before I could grab a tissue, I noticed a pair of sleek shoes stop right in front of me. Slowly, I looked up.
Jennie.
Her face was unreadable, but in her hand, she held out a band-aid. Without saying a word, she crouched slightly, unwrapped it carefully, and gently placed it on my cut.
Her touch was careful, almost tender, and for a second, I felt my chest tighten.
When she was done, she stood, tossed the wrapper in the trash, and slipped her hands back into her pockets. She looked at me but didn't say anything.
I sniffed quietly and turned to walk away, but before I could take a step, her hand shot out again, gripping my wrist firmly. She spun me around until my back hit the wall.
I groaned. "I don't want to see you right now," I whispered, my voice breaking slightly.
We were standing far too close, her face hovering just inches from mine.
"Let me go," I added, avoiding her eyes.
"Never," she whispered back, her tone low and dangerous.
I tried to push her off, pressing my hands against her shoulders, but she was stronger than she looked. Despite being just 5'5, Jennie held me in place with ease, her hands quickly pinning mine above my head.
"Why were you crying?" she demanded softly, her eyes searching mine.
"You don't need to know," I whispered, stubbornly looking away.
She sighed, the sound heavy, almost regretful.
"Go back to your boyfriend. He must be waiting for you," I added bitterly.
Something flickered across her face, and then she whispered so quietly I almost didn't catch it
"Sorry."
No expression. No smile. Just that one word before she stepped back and walked away, leaving me pinned against the wall, my chest heaving with emotions I couldn't untangle.
She's so confusing...
