JENNIE'S POV
"You're late."
I froze at the sound of the voice. My heart pounded as I slowly turned my head.
Lisa was sitting at a small table in the corner of the empty room. Her arms were folded, her head tilted, and she was staring right at me with that familiar sparkle in her eyes.
The tears streaming down my face instantly stopped. My chest tightened.
"L-Lili?" I whispered, barely able to breathe.
"Hi, Nini!" she giggled, her smile wide and teasing, as if she hadn't just broken me a thousand times and put me back together again.
"Lisa!" I cried, my voice cracking as I rushed toward her.
I wrapped my arms around her tightly, hugging her as if I would never let go. She chuckled softly and held me back.
I buried my face in her shoulder, inhaling the scent I missed so much. "I thought you were going to New York?" I asked, pulling back just enough to see her face.
"I was..." she admitted softly. Then she smiled. "But then I thought, why would I go if I'm happy here?"
"You're not leaving?" I asked again, almost not believing her words.
She giggled and shook her head. "I'm not going anywhere."
Relief flooded through me, and I hugged her tighter, clinging to her warmth.
"Thank you," I whispered, my voice breaking as I sniffled.
"Your wedding!" Lisa suddenly panicked, pulling back and looking at me with wide eyes.
"It's fine," I said quickly, wiping my tears away. "I left."
She rolled her eyes playfully. "Of course you did."
"So... does that mean you're not getting married?" she smirked.
I laughed, my heart finally feeling light again. "I'm not married," I said with a wink.
Her smirk grew wider, and before I lost my courage, I blurted, "Let's be together. Go out with me."
Her eyes softened, and she gave me the most beautiful smile I had ever seen.
"Okay," she whispered. "Let's be together." She leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss on my head.
"But..." Lisa added suddenly, pulling back with a small laugh. "I don't know where to stay since I don't live here anymore."
I gasped, then grinned as an idea lit up my face. "Live with me!" I said excitedly.
Her eyes widened. "W-What?" she whispered in surprise.
"Live with me! I'll be the best roommate slash girlfriend you've ever had!" I said with a big grin, my excitement bubbling out of me.
She laughed and shook her head. "Okay, okay, I'll live with you."
"Jennie?"
The sound of that voice made me freeze. Slowly, I turned around and my eyes widened.
Taehyung was standing near the door, watching us with calm eyes.
"Oh god," Lisa muttered under her breath.
"Taehyung..." I said softly, guilt swirling in my chest.
"I'm sorry I left during the wedding. It's just... I'm not happy with you. I don't love you. However, I love you as a friend. If you ever go through depression again, then I'll be there, but not like that."
To my surprise, he smiled.
"It's fine," he said calmly. "I always knew you didn't like me. I don't love you either."
"What?" I asked, shocked by his words.
He sighed and finally revealed the truth. "My mom forced me to do this with you. The truth is... I'm already married. I have a beautiful wife, and I also have a son. I was married before I even knew you. No one knows about it, because she made me hide it. I had my son before I met you, and he's amazing." His eyes softened as he spoke, pride and love shining in them.
My jaw dropped. "What about your depression?" I asked, still stunned.
"All fake," he admitted quietly. "My mom forced me."
"So everything was fake and forced?" Lisa asked, her brows furrowing.
He nodded.
"Why would you even listen to your mom if she's just forcing you like that?" Lisa asked again, her voice filled with disbelief.
His expression grew pained. "Because... she threatened to kill my wife and son if I didn't listen to her."
The room went silent.
"Where are you going now?" Lisa finally asked, her tone gentler.
"I'm going away. I'm going to see my wife and son. I haven't seen them in six years," he said with a bittersweet smile.
"Wow..." I breathed, still processing everything.
He looked at us one last time. "Good luck with your future."
"You too, Taehyung. Let's keep in touch, still," I said softly.
He nodded once, then turned and walked out the door.
Silence filled the room after he left.
"Wow," Lisa muttered again, shaking her head.
I turned back to her, my heart racing with relief. "Let's go home, Lili," I said with a smile.
She nodded, smiling back. And for the first time in so long, everything finally felt right.
