JENNIE'S POV
"GOODBYE, MISS!" I said sternly, my voice sharp enough to make the girl flinch.
She froze for a moment, then turned on her heel and ran off, practically tripping over her own feet as she disappeared from sight. I let out a soft chuckle under my breath.
When I turned around, my eyes landed on Lisa.
Lisa... I had only seen her yesterday, and yet, here she was again, right in front of me. My chest tightened in a way I wasn't used to.
Why was I feeling like this?
Why did she have this strange effect on me?
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice soft, almost shy.
I smirked faintly. "See, told you I need to follow you, Lili."
She giggled, her eyes sparkling, and the sound made my heart do something it had no business doing.
"You're welcome, Lili," I whispered back, and she chuckled again.
"Is Lili my new nickname now?" she asked, tilting her head.
"Yes," I replied simply, watching the way she blushed at my answer.
Soon, it was time for our coffee date. We left the bookstore and stepped outside. I told her the name of the café we'd be heading to, and she immediately started walking down the street.
"Lisa!" I called out, striding quickly to catch up with her.
She turned around with a curious look. "Yeah?"
"Why are you walking? Where's your car?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, I don't bring my car to work," she said shyly, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
"Uh, why?" I pressed, staring at her like it didn't make sense.
"Because I live down the street," she explained simply, as if that were the most obvious thing in the world.
I sighed, shaking my head. "Get into my car."
It hit me then, this was the first time I had ever invited someone into my car. For some reason, the thought felt strange, significant.
"You don't have to—" she began, clearly flustered.
"Just get in," I said, my tone firmer this time.
She hesitated for a second, then gave in.
"Alright."
We arrived at my favorite coffee shop, a cozy little place tucked into the corner of the street. The smell of roasted beans and warm pastries filled the air the moment we stepped inside.
We ordered our drinks, mine was my usual, hers came with a cookie, of course.
For some reason, just sitting across from her at that small wooden table, watching her laugh at something silly I said, made me... happy. Truly happy.
"Ms. Kim?" she said softly, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I looked at her and smiled faintly. "Jennie. Call me Jennie when it's just us."
She nodded, her lips curving up. "Am I going to be your intern?"
"Of course," I replied without hesitation.
She gave another small nod, looking relieved.
"I already set up everything," I continued, stirring my coffee. "You just have to come at 4 p.m."
