"You need me to drop you off back home ?" I asked Janiya

"Nah I actually am suppose to stay with Ary tonight, but I mean you can so I can grab some more clothes and my keys because she drove us around today." She shrugged and I nodded

The car ride was silent as hell, and guilt immediately started to wash over me.

"What made you not want to get a abortion ?" I asked and she looked at me

"I mean not like that-

"Just shut up." She told me and I cleared my throat before looking ahead before we went into another silence

"My uncle told me to abort it, and I was going too until... he went on and on about how I was gonna be irresponsible, and how I was gonna be the only failure out the family, so I kept it. At the time I thought I was gonna have you and we would have something to prove, but as time went without you, proving loyalty towards my baby became more important." She explained and I nodded

"That's why I don't want you throwing me off Keshawn foreal... I'm focused, so if this isn't what you want let me know before I get used to having somebody around." She said and I nodded before looking at her

"Ima focus too Niya.. I know it's what my mama would've wanted and even though you being stubborn that's what you want too." I said and she rolled her eyes before crossing her arms

Loosing my ma woke me. At first I didn't understand why she reacted the way she did when I told her, but now I get it. She knew exactly how it felt to be looked over when having somebody's child that didn't want shit to do with you. She went through it, and even though my pod was still here for me physically, she was the only one here for me mentally.

I blame neither for anything. If it wasn't for my pod my ma wouldn't even be financially stable, that's one thing I can say about him, he genuinely took care of the ones he loved most.

"I just don't want you being here now if you're gonna get tired of me and then not be here when the baby is born."

"Janiya I know I was fucked up, but at the same time I'm not finna sit here and beg you to let me start taking responsibility. I admit to not doing that shit before and I'm sorry, but I'm trying." I said and she nodded

"So then I'll see you at the next doctors appointment right ?" She asked and I nodded causing her to raise a eyebrow

"Yea it sounds good." She mumbled before turning around and I chuckled.

I took one last pull from my blunt before putting it out and sitting back.

After a minute Jr walked in and he started fanning the smoke before making a face

"I don't see how y'all smoke that shit." He chuckled and I laughed with him before getting up and pulling him into a hug

"You straight ?" I asked him before pulling back and he nodded

"I saw it coming, just not as soon." He said

"They've been calling me on funeral arrangements and I wanted to leave it up to you on what you wanted to do." I said and he nodded

"Doesn't she have a sister ? She should help." He said and I cleared my throat

"What?"

"Nothing, her sister had been passed away back when we lived in Atlanta, she had cancer also that shit ran through the family." I said and he raised his eyebrows
