"Come on, you guys. I'm almost eighteen. I just graduated at the top of my class. Don't you think I'm old enough to spend the summer by myself?"

I looked back and forth between my parents as they stared at each other for a moment. My bags were loaded into the trunk and as the driver shut it, I clasped my hands together, silently pleading as I began to pout.

"I think she thinks we forgot about that rager she threw over Christmas break."

"Okay... that was different: I thought Dad was still in New York."

"Nice try, Kiddo. Was that everything?"

I looked over at the now-closed trunk, nodding to let my dad know I had everything I needed. A moment later, my mom turned to me, wrapping her arms around me as she pulled me in for a warm hug.

"Alright, Sweetie. Have fun on the road with your dad. I'll see you for your birthday."

I nodded and took a step back, turning to get into the chauffeured car. Once I got in, I rolled down the window, listening in on my parents as they said goodbye to each other.

"You sure you don't wanna come to the show tonight?"

I glanced back just in time to see my dad's bright smile, his dimple popping as he tugged on the hem of my mom's shirt.

"Boy, if you don't get outta here... I have to be on a plane, first thing in the morning. Filming starts in three days."

"Damn... Well, have fun in Europe."

"I will. You two... be good on the road."

"I always am."

I turned back in my seat and smirked as my dad got into the car. He looked over at me with a curious look on his face.

"What?"

"Nothing, it's just-- you and Mom are cute."

"She is the love of my life."

As we pulled out of my long driveway, my dad looked back, keeping an eye on my mom until she was out of sight.

My parents met back in the day. My dad was the frontman for a band and my mom was an actress, working as the love interest in one of the band's videos.

He asked her out over and over until she finally said yes and they found they were having me a few months later.

They split when I was four, but I could always tell that the love was still there.

"Back to the arena, Phil."

My dad's driver nodded as I slipped my earbuds in, sitting back in my seat as we headed for the first venue.
