in the crowd...

I was on stage during rehearsal, tuning my bass when I looked out into the empty seats. A smile was on my face a second later as I saw Sadie, sitting near the stage, smiling as she kept her eyes glued to her phone.

I couldn't believe that just twenty-four hours ago, this girl who I couldn't stop thinking about was a complete stranger.

As her smile widened while she looked at her phone, I felt a tug on my heart, the same tug I'd been feeling since I walked her back down to her room last night. We were right down the hall, but since she was rooming with Jay, we thought it'd be best to part ways right after we got off the elevator.

That was the last time I'd seen her and that was over 12 hours ago; I just couldn't believe that I already missed her.

And it wasn't just because of the physical stuff; of course, she was beautiful, and she had a certain effect on my body... but she also drew my mind just as wild.

She was funny, always keeping me on my toes. This girl was nothing I ever expected and all I seemed to want.

And even though I didn't know all that much about her yet, I couldn't wait to figure out all her little quirks, like the way her nose scrunched up when she's being playful.

All throughout rehearsal I found myself with my eyes wandering around casually trying to remain on her without Jay noticing me staring at her.

I couldn't help it... she was fucking gorgeous.

She left right before we were finished, scurrying back towards the doors where the fans came through.

"Damn."

I guess I wasn't the only one noticing Sadie, because as I looked over to see Ryder biting his lip, staring in the direction she had just left, I wanted to throttle him.

But I wasn't the only one.

"Dude... Did you or did you not hear me last night? Stay. Away. From my sister."

"Ooookay."

Ryder nodded and gave Jayson a 'thumbs up' sarcastically before returning to his place behind the microphone, causing Jay to yell out from where he was standing behind his keyboard.

"You might be the lead singer but what you've seemed to have forgotten is that Calvary is my band and anyone in it? Totally replaceable."

The last ten minutes that she wasn't there seemed to drag on the longest. I'd never seen Jay so serious about anything, and now I was starting to wonder why.

We were chilling in our green room before we went on, and since Ryder, Luke, and Winston had all gone to get food from catering, I thought this would be the only time I could talk to Jay without having extra ears around.

"So, Jay... Dude, what's the deal with your sister?"

He looked over at me, dropping his Xbox controller as he rolled his eyes.

"Come on, dude. Not you too. Look, I--"

"No, bro, it's not like that. I just-- we've known each other for three years and I've never heard about Sadie. What's up?"

Jay sighed and nodded as he looked down. He shrugged as he looked back at me and smacked his hands together, rolling them around before cracking his knuckles.

"She's my only sister, man. And-- okay, my dad was kind of a ho-- but he made sure we were all kept out of the spotlight. Sadie's mom is this actress chick, so she was always super sheltered. As her big brother--"

"It's your job to protect her. I get that man, I do. But, don't you think it's time you let her start, I don't know... growing up?"

Jay shrugged again, picking back up his control as we continued our game.

"I don't know, probably. I mean she's right-- she's almost eighteen. But... she's never not gonna be my baby sis, ya know? I'm always gonna look out for her."

I bit my lip to hold back a chuckle as I thought back to Sadie, sucking on my tongue last night, and how different she must be from the 'Little Sadie' her brother knows.

We were on fire last night, opening our set with our newest top-charting single "When She Looks At Me", and my eyes began scanning the crowd.

I smiled once I found Sadie in the crowd, right around the same area she was in the last venue.

My smile shifted though, when moments later, some guy wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her in. They sang the band's song together and it felt like I couldn't breathe. The notes and chords I was playing became mechanical and all I wanted to do was get off the stage.

But, I couldn't stop looking at her, no matter how bad it hurt.

Thinking back to how different I thought 'My Sadie' was from 'Jayson's Sadie', I felt like a fool, doubting if she was ever 'My Sadie' at all.
