"Hello?" "You left early?" Emily gets up from her seat next to Nora in the movie theater.

"Yeah sorry I forgot to tell you. I took a cab back home. I had to take my sister out before things got messy with her and my mom." "Oh everything ok?"

"Yes it's all good. After we finish this movie we're going to walk back home." "So everything good with you and your mom?" "I don't know. I'm going to try to talk to her when we get back, and hopefully I can come back home. How did court go?"

He sighs. "It went fine. They said they'll have their final decision ready on Friday." Emily smiles. "Are you happy?" He pauses. "I don't know. I have to go though.. I'll talk to you later." "Bye."

Emily hangs up. The credits had just started rolling as Emily came back. "You ready to go?" "Not really.." As the two walk home, a white car pulls up to the side of them.

Emily steps in front of Nora. "Hey Emily it's me Aiden." "Are you following me or something?" He laughs as he shuts his door behind him.

"No I was on my way home then I spotted you two walking outside during the night." "So you.." "Decided to walk with you. Just to make sure you get home safe. I could drive y'all."

"No it's fine. Our house is right there." Emily points across the street. "Who are you?" Nora asks. "I'm Aiden. Emily's friend. You are?" "Nora. Emily's sister." He shakes her hand dramatically. "Well it's very nice to meet you Emily's sister." She laughs. "It's very nice to meet you Emily's friend."

"Well we're here.. thanks for walking us." "No problem. Will you be at school tomorrow?" "Yeah. Will you?" "Totally. See you tomorrow Emily." She laughs as he skips away down the street.

"Do you like him?" Nora asks from the porch. Emily laughs. "No open the door." "She's not here." Riley yells from the couch. "Where is she? Did she even notice that Nora was gone?"

"I doubt it. And she's probably at some bar." "Where's Kendrick?" "Some friends." "Well I'm staying here tonight." "Ok."

"Where's the teacher?" A kid asks from the back of the class. "Mr. Heins will be back Monday. He has some family things he's dealing with, and that's all he left me with. If your in here for history you will be working on missing assignments for the next two days."

The class groans in annoyance as Emily pulls out her phone. She starts to text Mr. Heins, but figured it's probably none of her business. So she text Tina instead.

"Where are you? Did you miss the bus?" As Emily makes her way to 5th period she accidentally bumps into someone. Sadly it wasn't Mr. Heins.

"Emily?" It was Zoe from the field trip. She smiles. "Hey Zoe where have you been?" "Here." They walk slowly down the hall. "I must have missed you in the halls then." "Yeah that or sometimes I choose to stay home."

"That's understandable." "Yeah so how you been?" Emily thinks for a second. "Good I guess." They stop in front of Zoe's locker. "You guess?" "Yeah.."

"Hey Emily. So why does it feel like we haven't talked in forever?" Henry says leaning on the locker behind the two.

"Probably because we haven't. Henry this is Zoe. I think y'all met already." "Kind of." Henry smiles at Zoe. Emily rolls her eyes. "Flirt on your own time. I'll see you later Zoe." "Ok bye Emily. Bye Henry." She winks at him before heading the other direction.

"I think she likes me." "Fuck off. Have you seen Tina?" "Not today. But she was at my house yesterday." "Are you two dating?" "No. Why?" "Your always hanging out." "Does it bother you?" Emily laughs. "Not one bit. It's a little concerning."

As Emily waits for the bell Aiden comes to sit next to her. "Hey Noras sister." She smiles. "What do you want Aiden."

"To take you to dinner." She looks at him confused. "Look I think it's very obvious that I like you, but I'm with the whole taking it slow type thing. So for starters.. I would like to take you to dinner."

Emily thinks for a second. He was nice and cute, but Emily thinks of what it would do to her and Mr. Heins relationship. He said that they were dating. So it would be cheating right?

"That sounds lovely. I'll have to ask my mom first though." The bell rings. "Alright well you have my number." She laughs. "I think it's you who has my number."

"Same thing. I'll see you later." He walks off with a group of his friends. "Didn't he just start here? How does he have a lot a friends already?"

Henry says catching up to Emily. "He's a rich white boy. How else?" "Is that why you like him?" Emily rolls her eyes. "Enough with this shit." "What shit?"

As everyone talks at the lunch table Emily pulls out her phone. "Is everything ok?" She takes a bite of her apple as she waits for Mr. Heins response.

"Yeah kind of busy."  "Aiden asked me to dinner.." "...." "I'm guessing you don't care." "I'm busy Emily." "So can I go?" He doesn't reply.

Emily wanted to go, but at the same time she didn't. Aiden was cute, but she didn't like him like that. She knew who she liked. But she didn't want to hurt his feelings.

She would tell him she had a boyfriend, but that would be to risky. "Sorry my mom said not tonight. Maybe some other time."

"Y'all guess what." Henry says. "What?" "The Christmas Ball is coming up." Emily freezes. "Wow already.." "Yes. What are we going to wear? Like we should all wear one color all together."

"We as in.." "Me, you, Tina, and Zoe? Do you want to match?" Zoe smiles at him. "Yes. I would love to match you." Emily laughs as she takes her tray up. Aiden following behind her.

"So no dinner tonight?" "Yeah not tonight I have to help at home and stuff." "Ok. Maybe next week?" "Yeah. Maybe." Emily smiles.
