I kicked off my heels as soon as I walked through Cole's front door.
"I'm stealing your shirt," I said rubbing my sore feet.
"Go ahead," he laughed shaking his head. "I'm surprised you even lasted this long."
"I know right! How on earth am I going to keep this up? This girl thing is horrible! I had to wake up an hour earlier to get ready! Did you hear that? One whole freaking hour gone," I whined climbing up the stairs.
I finally get to his room and take out one of his older larger hand me downs. It has so many grass stains, every time I look at it, I remember the hours we spent playing outside over the years.
"Turn around," I tell him. He obliges by putting a hand over his eyes and turning.
I finally peal off barbies closet of my body and slip into something more familiar and comfortable. The smell of Cole is still on it which was one of my favorite smells right after garlic bread.
I rummage for some guy shorts and find some long socks trying to cover up as much skin as possible. I practically felt naked today, I've never shown that much skin. I wonder how brave and confident the girls who dress like this are. Maybe after a few more days and I can be like them too.
"What did your mom make for dinner?" I ask. "You can turn around now."
"Turkey," he answers and sighs when he sees me. I know, I'm glad to look like myself again.
"Yes! Your mom makes the best stuffing." I go across the hall to the bathroom to wipe up my face and tie my hair in a messy bun.
Cole sits on the sink counter waiting for me to finish. Taking off make up is harder than it looks.
"Yo Cole, did you break up with Ash?" Alex asks his head popping from the door. "Oh hey Care."
"Hi Alex."
Sometimes I wonder whether Alex and Zach go to college because they practically live at home.
"No, I didn't what would make you think that?" Cole asks nervously.
"Cuz we saw saw you take that hot chick upstairs, is she single?" Zach asks popping out of nowhere.
It takes me a moment to realize what they're talking about. I look at Cole awkwardly but then our faces match each other when we try to suppress bursting into laughter.
"She's single, but I don't think you're her type," answers Cole.
"How do you know? I'm everyone's type," Zach frowns.
"I'll just have to ask her then," Cole turns towards me. "Is Zach your type?"
"I totally think he's hot, he's pretty fun, and I sort of have a thing for team captains," I teased.
Cole blushes before I realize what I said. Oh no he could have taken that the wrong way. We'd just gotten over the almost accident.
"I mean quarterbacks whatever same thing," I tried to recover.
"Ha ha very funny guys, what's her name?" Zach tries again.
"Five bucks says she won't go for you," bet Alex.
"Ten says I'll have her number by the end of the day," Zach bets back.
"Twenty within the hour," Alex pitches
"Thirty within ten minutes," Zach starts getting confident.
"I bet fifty if you can have her number in under a minute," I said. Cole looks at me knowingly.
