Dean sat there looking at me, waiting for me to talk.
"I really didn't like what you said back there," I came out and said it. No need to beat around the bush.
Dean looked at me confused. Of course, he had no idea what I was talking about.
"Am I your girlfriend because of the bet or because you want me to be?"
He furrowed his brows, letting out a deep breath. "Well, at first, you were. But I actually like you for God know's what reason, I just do."
I smiled inwardly sort of liking his answer.
"I just don't like how Cole still thinks your his," he scowled.
I wiggled my brows teasingly. "Why? Are you jealous?"
"You fucking bet I am," he frowned. I smiled now and leaned over and kissed his cheek.
Dean seemed to ease down. We drove to the race track so we can meet the other contesters. Jake was already waiting for us there. We followed him to where three of them were hanging around their cars. They were all older than Dean by a few years which was pretty impressive.
"Who invited the toddler?" asked the oldest one. He had tattoos covering his whole body, I could see his full sleeves and those on his neck.
This earned a joke from the other two contesters. One was a woman with short black hair, who totally looked badass. Not only that, she was totally hot. I was sort of envious of her. She looked like a real woman, instead of an awkward teen like me. The other contestant was younger than the two, he had blond curly hair and had a bright smile on his face. He looked very friendly, I think I liked him the most.
Dean smirked. "I'm just fresh competition old man."
The man took an intimidating step forward. He was freakishly tall and huge. I looked around seeing if anyone would save Dean if this man decided to start a problem, but no one seemed to care other than Jake who tensed up beside me. In fact, I think everyone here would like to see a fight go down.
The man suddenly laughed and wrapped his arm around Dean's shoulders. "I like this kid. He's got balls."
The other two laughed and cheered him on. I looked at Jake who was smiling happily at the turn of events. Dean motioned for us to join them.
"This here is my best mate, he helped me get here. Guess you can say, he's my agent." He pointed at Jake. Now he had an arm around my waist. "This is my girlfriend, she actually is my secret weapon."
This caught the woman's attention. "Secret weapon?"
Dean nodded. "She's the better engineer."
I almost dropped my jaw. Did he just admit to me being the better engineer? Dean? DEAN????
All their attention turned to me as they examined me.
"Beauty and brains. I like it," said the blonde one.
Dean held me closer. "Luckily, she's mine."
"Well, let's just see how good the two of you are on the track," said the tattooed guy.
"Wait- I thought there was four of you?" asked Jake.
"Well, us three, we're family," said the blonde guy. "We've been racing since high school. We split the winning money between us, but we like to compete for bragging rights. Keeps us motivated."
"The fourth contestant is a douche," said the girl. She pointed to a guy in a leather jacket who was surrounded by girls. From the way he was talking and the way they were looking at him, I think he was telling a story. And gloating. Lots of gloating. "We don't really like him, his ego is too big. We can't wait to knock him down a notch."
