Sir Harry awoke to the violent sound of thunder cracking on the horizon. He stretched, before throwing off the covers. Thankfully, his headache seemed to have vanished.
Even though it was clearly quite late, the knight could hear voices from outside his door. Groaning, he decided he probably should see what was going on. Best not to waste a second of information, if he could even get his hands on it, that is.
He quickly rolled out of bed, and decided it'd be alright to just wear his tunic. It wasn't as if he'd have to fight anything, so what was the point, really, of suiting up? Slowly, he made his way to the door, and quietly pulled it open.
Peeking out, he just barely noticed a light disappear around a corner. He looked the opposite way, before stepping out into the hallway. The floor was cold beneath his feet.
Stealthily, he hurried round the corner, and caught up with a small group. Unfortunately, he couldn't make out who each of them were in the dark. He followed the group down a staircase, then down another -- to the dungeons below.
Once they stopped, Sir Harry slipped into the darkness. Candles lit the area, and he could just barely make out four of the several faces: King Lucius, Queen Narcissa, Prince Draco, and most strange of all -- Doctor Snape. There was just one whom he didn't recognize. The man looked rough, with his matted hair and dirt-crusted nails. When he spoke, Sir Harry could see his sharpened teeth.
He could be a beast himself, the knight thought, as he stared at the large cauldron -- which he had just noticed -- in the center of the group. Trying to see what was inside, Sir Harry stood on his toes. He was too far to see inside, and couldn't make out what was being said, but he didn't dare move any closer.
Suddenly, Prince Draco moved forward. He had a look of uncertainty, as he turned back to face the queen. She nodded gently, placed a hand on his shoulder, and said something.
The prince seemed to relax, and turned back around to face the cauldron. Slowly, he pulled back his sleeve, and lifted his left arm above the cauldron. A huge puff of green smoke arose, causing the group to move back.
Once Prince Draco pulled his arm back, Sir Harry noticed the black outline of a serpent and skull covering the length of the prince's forearm.
Well that definitely wasn't there before, Sir Harry thought, and shuffled back, deeper into the darkness.
Suddenly, the group began to move towards him. The knight's breath hitched, and he tried his best to stay calm.
Then, a low rumble filled the room.
King Lucius stepped forward, and held out his arm to stop the others. The ground shook beneath them.
"Your Highness..." murmured Doctor Snape. "I feel it's best if we go upstairs."
"Severus is right. We can't just hide down here and wait for whatever's causing that to leave," Queen Narcissa spoke.
The king sighed. "Alright."
The group began to move once again -- towards where Sir Harry was hiding. The knight closed his eyes. Just as the sound of footsteps was nearly on top of him, he peeked. He could've sworn he'd seen the prince glance at him as he passed by, but the group continued forward, not one uttering a single word.
Soon, Sir Harry moved out of the shadows, and found himself jogging out of the dungeons, and up the stairs. He paused at the top, peering out a window into the night.
The rumbling couldn't have been just an earthquake. No, it was much too alive. Then, he saw it.
The dragon -- the dragon.
