Sir Harry dropped the empty bottle of wine he had been holding. It broke against the hard, stone ground, but everyone seemed to ignore it.
"There was-" Princess Ginny choked out. "There was this man. This horrific man-- he looked like a snake, Sir Cedric... A pale snake!"
He glanced down at Lady Luna's bloodied sword. "Just..." Then back at the king's dead body. "Breathe."
Sir Harry looked at Prince Draco beside him, and decided that he should probably take that advice too.
The princess continued on. "He brought me here and told that man-- he's the king, isn't he? Goodness, I've killed a king!"
"What did he say?" pressed Sir Cedric.
She looked him in the eyes. "That I'd be of good use to them... That I could be used as leverage."
Astoria appeared on the opposite side of Prince Draco. "Oh goodness..." She covered her mouth with one hand, and gripped onto the prince's arm with the other.
That seemed to snap Prince Draco out of whatever shock he had been in. "I--"
All eyes were on him in an instant.
"I didn't know--" he tried. "I had nothing to do with this!"
"Do you know of this snake-man?"
"No... Well, possibly. But its not like that matters, right?" he laughed hysterically.
"Hey, guys," Lady Luna interrupted. "I think it's important to mention that before he died, King Lucius pulled this out." In her hand laid a black stick, which looked remarkably like a wand. On one end was a serpent's head, with eyes of green gems. "He tried to say something... It sounded like imp."
Prince Draco's eyes went wide, as if all of this was making sense to him. "He wasn't even going to kill you!"
"That doesn't mean he wasn't going to harm her," said Sir Cedric. "Still, I too don't believe he should have been slaughtered."
Prince Draco looked around, frantically. "Where are those damned guards!? You--" he pointed at Lady Luna. "If you wouldn't have snuck in, she never would have had access to a sword."
"Watch it there. Your crown's slipping," muttered Lady Luna.
Sure enough, Draco's actual crown was beginning to slide from the top of his head. He adjusted it, then said, "Doesn't matter. I'm king now, anyway."
"What difference does that make?" questioned Sir Cedric.
"It means I can declare war."
Without thinking, Sir Harry reached out a hand, and placed it on the Draco's shoulder. It was immediately shrugged off. "Wait--"
"Don't."
"But you--" He was cut off again.
Draco turned to face him, his eyes misty. "I..." he cracked out, then closed his eyes and cleared his throat. "I think it's best if you go."
He tried to hold back, but the tears still fell. "Okay," he whispered. Before running off, he slowly walked into the cell, and handed Sir Cedric his sword. Then he wiped his face.
"Uh, thank you," said Sir Cedric, concern showing in his tone.
Sir Harry simply nodded, before leaving up the stairs. He probably wouldn't be crying if he weren't drunk. He didn't know why he was even crying to begin with.
When he reached his room, he decided to take off his suit, and leave it on the bed. It felt strange to have his armor back on after a week of not having to wear it. His ankle had been hurting since he'd descended into the dungeons, and it hadn't gotten any better.
