Was a wax seal of pure black.
The seal was sloppy, rushed. There was too much wax. It wasn't dusted, but handed directly to the crow. And if it had been, it must've whipped off- usually not likely, but this was a special case. Though, the person who sent the letter took enough time to roll it evenly.
Phil broke the seal and unrolled it, everyone's eyes on it.
Scribbled on there was a place, a time, and the name of a boat. Where the signature would be, a paw pad dipped in ink.
"No," Wilbur took the paper out of his father's hands, "Where is her signature," His wide eyes rapidly scanned the words over and over again, "Where is it? Where is it? It has to be somewhere!"
He was yelling at this point, his knuckles white.
"Will, calm down! I'm sure she's ok!"
"Where is her signature?!"
"She's probably just resting, Will. Take a moment to breathe."
"But, but-"
"You know how tiring the sea can be."
The entire room was silent aside from Will's rapid (but slowing) breath. Phil had taken the letter back from him and was smoothing out the crinkled paper.
You weren't quite sure what was going on, but considering the color of the wax seal and Wilbur's frantic response, it was something big. The only reasonable explanation was that someone close to him had died.
"She's strong, son. You know that." Phil said as he rolled back up the note.
"You're right.I shouldn't jump to conclusions- but I still can't help but be worried."
"We'll leave immediately. Wilbur, go ahead and pack. Tubbo, as of right now- you're in charge. Don't be afraid to ask Callahan and Alyssa questions. But- make sure the sighting doesn't get out of hand."
"What about me?" Tommy said, sounding offended.
"Stay here with Tubbo, we'll be back soon enough."
"But-"
"Tommy! This isn't the time to whine!"
At this, Tommy seemed taken aback. You couldn't blame Phil for being frustrated, but it was more than clear that Tommy was just curious and felt left out.
"Look- if worst comes to worst, I don't want you to see that. You need to be safe."
The blond nodded and stalked away, heading to the doorway that Wilbur had just left through.
"What's happening, Phil?"
Phil met your eyes, a solemn look in his own.
"Sally."
