Yup. Way too late.

You were sitting in front of the fire, a chunk of meat on a stick in your hand. The meat looked delicious, the best damn cut of meat you've ever laid your eyes on. And as a royal, that meant A LOT. It almost made you forget that it was something that you killed.

Almost.

You hesitantly took a bite of the rabbit, the flesh tearing away easily.

It.was.amazing.

The way that it fell apart in your mouth made the kill completely slip from your mind. You had never had any kind of meat product be so genuinely desirable before. It was insane.

"Woah, slow down there buddy. You might choke," Techno chuckled.

You realized what you were doing. You had broken the etiquette that had been all but beaten into you because of one piece of meat.

But, you know what?

You didn't care.

You were free. You didn't have to go by royal standards anymore. You weren't a royal anymore. The second you stepped foot out of the palace gates it was set in stone. There was no going back. Now, you were a rogue. A criminal. Someone who directly opposed your own Kingdom and those like it. What's done was done. You had made a deal, one that you could never back out of. Not anymore.

And you were fine with that.

You hated how familiar everything was. It was a giant palace with what people thought were countless bed chambers. But, you knew exactly how many there were. 23 master bedrooms and 74 sleeping rooms for the servants, each having their own small room. Making 97 bed chambers in total.

Other than that all you had to occupy yourself was the few things taught to you. Painting, literature, just the arts in general. It was all you really had. Your only form of escapism that you were actually allowed to take part in. It wasn't until you got your taste of freedom that you realized how trapped you really were.

Suddenly, the noises of nature were much louder. The gentle stream that fed into the pond seemed stronger, and the once slow wind now rang in your ears. The animals had gone silent.

Technoblade tense and rested his hand on the handle of his sword. He signaled for you to be quiet.

And just as quick as he had placed the old blade on your throat, he slit the neck of a Drowned that was standing right behind you. A small amount of the blood-splattered onto you, but most was poured on Technoblade and the dirt under his feet.

The creature writhed in pain on the ground for a few moments before becoming still.

Techno's speed display was inhuman, as you didn't even realize that he had moved until you felt the unnervingly cold blood splatter onto the back of your neck and the zip of wind that he created.

"Are you alright?"

"Uhm," You took a moment to run over the recent events a second time, "Yeah."

"Good. Will would kill me if you got hurt," He paused, "Or, he would try."

"What just happened?"

Techno's face paled slightly, as the realization of what he had just done dawned on him.

"Well, a Drowned came behind you and was gonna hurt you, so-"

"No," You cut him off, "You know what I meant. What did you just do?"

His lips formed a strict line. There was something he didn't want you to know, and you could tell.

"Fine, don't tell me. But I will figure out how and why you did that," You huffed, wiping some of the rancid blood off your neck.

He stayed silent but looked at the blood that was now on your hand with a concerned expression.

"Here," He walked towards you hesitantly.

"What?"

He poured some water from a flask onto a cloth and held it out to you.

"Oh. Um, thanks."

You took it and wiped off the blood, tensing at the feeling of cold water dripping down your back. You handed it back to him once you were done.

"I'm gonna step into my tent to wash this off," he began to walk towards the shelter, "holler if you need anything."

"Alright," you called back.

You decided that after this day of adventure, it was finally time for some well-deserved rest.
