And then there was no room, just darkness. You couldn't hear anything anymore.

Your eyes felt sticky and your throat was so dry it hurt. Your head pounded with every change of direction.
Faint light spilled from under the door, barely illuminating the dark, uncomfortable bed you were stuffed in. A half-empty bottle of red liquid sat on the bed's side table.
"Fuck," you croaked, your voice hoarse. You decided you weren't gonna talk again for a little bit.
You took the bottle and drank some of it. It was thick, but refreshing. It was good enough for you to finish off, assuming it was yours in the first place.
From what you could see, the room looked mostly empty. It had no distinct smell- just like it had been empty for a long time.
The door creaked open.
"You're awake, finally. How do you feel."
You just shook your head. You didn't want to feel the pain of talking again.
"Not good?" Techno said as he stepped farther into the room, "Well, lets hope you recover fully soon, or at least enough to get back on the road. We won't be staying here long."
"This is a bad place to be right now," He continued, "Crime rate seems to be at a high, and the authorities aren't happy about it. Guards are supposed to march on this place soon. I guess they're done letting it be a sick free-for-all."
"Which?" You managed, wincing at the burn that was left in your throat.
"Which what, which guards?"
You nodded.
"We're not sure yet. We don't even know exactly when, but it's soon, and we need to get out of here before that happens. If they do find this place, which is unlikely, all of us are criminals, outlaws, or just not supposed to be here except for Fundy."
'Fundy? That's a new one'
"Right, you don't know him."
His quick response made it seems almost like he could read your thoughts.
"He's a complicated character, but the short story is that he's Will's illegitimate son. He grew up out here and this little hide-away is his home. He's a bit of a potion master, as well, which is why he chose the poison as his defense. The rest of us have an immunity from a mixture of exposure and a make-shift 'vaccination potion' that he made awhile back. Honestly, I crash here quite often, and I've been unaffected for so long that it completely slipped my mind."
He laughed softly. He had a very unique, airy laugh. Almost like he was out of breath.
"Anyways, if you're going to get better fast, you'll need rest. Go back to sleep. I'll see if Fundy can whip anything up for that throat of yours."
Yet again, a statement that made it seem like he knew exactly what you were thinking.
He didn't give you time to react and just shut the door, leaving you in darkness again. It was a little unpleasant- you never had been a fan of the dark. It could be soothing, but too much of it got overwhelming fast. Maybe it was from the fear of assassination that had been burned into your head since you were a child. It would go away faster if you just went to sleep.
It seemed like it would be hard to sleep, though. No matter how long you held your eyes closed, the thoughts the of future lingered. What would you do after all of this? How would life carry on? You had no more family, and the closest thing to friends you had was your guards back at the castle. You couldn't see why this group would stay with you after all if this. You were just an asset, after all. Everyone else here grew up together or are family. You barely even knew anyone.
You had nowhere to go. No one to live with. No survival skills, no experience- sure, you could research, but you can't cook, or build, or even fight. How could you possibly last on your own? Where would you go in the first place? Your life had just been turned upside-down on a whim- impulse, even. It wasn't too late to return to your kingdom, but you couldn't get back home even if you wanted to. You didn't know how. And you didn't want to.
You didn't even know the people you were with, but still, you were having more fun than you'd even had in any of your years of living in the castle. It was exhilarating. Despite the troubles you'd already come across, you found yourself happier than even. Maybe the future isn't so important- maybe it would find itself out like it always did. Right then, the only future vision you needed was about how you were going to take down the entire system of kingdoms. Surely, your life status would change by then. Maybe you could really become friends with these people.
Your brain started to slow down and accept that it was time to rest. Life would determine itself. You had no control over what fate chose for you. There was no reason for you to lose sleep over it.

Life is weird. I lost all motivation to write, but I have a lot of free time and motivation now, so hopefully it'll start a posting streak.
