"Will's girlfriend."
"Will has a girlfriend?"
"Um, yeah. They met awhile pack, at the peer. Will had snuck away to find a pub, and all the good bars are where the pirates like to spend their time. Which is at the peer."
"Sally's a pirate?"
"Uh... yeah. Kind of. From what we've heard, she's only classified as a pirate because she sails without citizenship or a license, but all her and her crew does is transport booze to bars like the one we're headed to."
"Huh. Will must've felt pretty awkward, getting courted away while having a girlfriend and such."
"I'm sure he did."
A silence fell over you two, a bit uncomfortable but not unbearable.
"Here," he handed you the bag he had taken from the horse, "set up the tent. I'll go start a fire."
"Yea, okay." You took it.
Techno immediately headed to the treeline of the small clearing, scanning for sticks good enough to burn. You were left to decide where the tent would go. It would probably be best to leave the mid-area of the clearing to the fire pit so that you could have distance from the fire, and it would be a good idea to keep eyes on the water because of the sheer amount of drowneds recently- but you also can't put your blind spot on the obvious entrance of the area.
So, you compromised.
By the trees, pond on one side and the opening on the other, a small leather tent was propped up. By the time you had put the stakes into the ground Techno had prepared a spot for a small fire. The shelter was sturdy, but not quite enough to survive a bad storm. It would keep for the night.
Right now you were laying down padding for the hard ground that you two would have to sleep on. No matter what it was gonna be hard on your back, but you would at least try to lessen the inevitable pain. Whether or not it would work would be answered the next morning.
Some rummaging outside of the tent caught you off guard, taking your attention away from the cloth under you.
You pulled your dagger from your belt and adjusted the handle in your hands, holding it in a position that allowed you to stab at full force. Slowly you crawled out of the tent, face first so that nothing could catch you off guard.
You stepped out and peered past the material. Something moved, so quick that you could barely see it. You brought the jagged blade down, a shriek escaping the creature.
