This is what fate chose for Sally and Will. Could you really trust it to shape your future now?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The death announcement set back travel by a day, as Will completely refused to leave his room. It's not like anyone tried that hard to get him out, though. Everyone knew that he needed peace and, honestly, no one wanted to see him like that.

After some time of dry chatter in the parlor, Phil stood and announced that it was time for everyone to sleep so you could leave "bright and early" the next day. You wouldn't either way, considering how you hadn't even chosen a destination yet.

However, your body was still tired from you illness, and you didn't really dislike the idea of getting some rest. Phil marched off to his room.

"Will you be sleeping yet?" You asked Techno.

"Probably not," he sighed, "I doubt I'll sleep much at all tonight."

"How come? Is it because of Sally?"

Normally, asking about a freshly deceased person would feel extremely rude, but when it came to him it seemed like he liked bluntness much more than just tip-toeing around a topic.

"Kind of. I've been having trouble sleeping lately in general, though. I'm not sure why."

"Oh. Maybe it's because of your uncomfortable sleeping conditions?"

"No, if that were it I would have had trouble sleeping my whole life."

"True."

You found yourself smiling softly at his little joke. It didn't seem like one, but the way he said it made it sound like he was trying to make light of it.

"So... what got you in the whole monarch killing biz, anyways?"

His face turned grim.

"Being Phil's close friend, I got to see the dark parts of ruling a kingdom. I got to know all about the other rulers and their short comings. Most places were diseased, starving, or both. So many were in pointless wars that killed hundreds, only for more to replace them like they never mattered in the first place. I saw how families were left destroyed. Children worked or they starved, sometimes they even did both. But the kings? They did nothing. I watched the make their beds, and I decided that I'd be the one to make them lay in it."

You were a bit taken-aback by his speech, but every word just made more and more sense to you as he said it. You understood now. He hated people like you before of how little you knew about the world. How many of your subjects had been dying while you were in power and you didn't even know it? How many are dying now?

"Where I'm from, we take care of each other," He continued, "If one of us is attacked, we all respond as if it were us. We protect each other, food each other, clothe each other. If one of us is suffering, we're all suffering. Human kind seems to lack that kind of loyalty. You all hate each other- fighting against one another instead of standing together. Imagine how much you people could get done if you just worked together."

"I know what you mean. People are so confident, that if they aren't the best, they lose themselves. Survival of the fittest, they say. But why kill the unfit? Because of people like you?" You chimed in.

"Exactly. See? You get me. If I shared this with almost anyone else on this Dream XD-forsaken earth, they would see me as a monster. But not you. You understand."

"Really? Can't you talk to the people in this group?"

"Well, of course I can. If we had time. I'm barely ever with them. I'm always off doing some mission, and they're always getting dirt on other Monarchs so I can take them down easier. We just don't have time for small talk."

"Wow. I've never really had time for small talk either, you know. Every day it's, 'New policy this, new allies that'. I don't think I've ever had a real friend that I could talk to. Of course, I've had my guards, but I couldn't tell them how I really felt. I had to learn to filter my thoughts if I wanted to talk at all."

"Wow. I guess I never realized that there could be free minds in there."

"I mean... they train you to be empty-headed puppets. It's not surprising that you never came across free-thinkers. It's hard to be yourself when you've been taught to be like everybody else."

"I've never heard a true-er statement," he shook his head, "sometimes I feel bad for killing people for just doing what they think is right."

"Really?"

"Yeah. And then I remember that what they think is right is actually very, very wrong."

"You know, you don't really seem like the talkative type. It's a bit surprising that you're talking this much when I barely even know you."

"Well, we're gonna be travelling together for a long time. You're gonna get to know me one way or another. Besides, my brain is at it's limit. I need to get some stuff out before it fries." He laughed a little.

There it was again, that signature, airy laugh. Kind of like he had a sore throat or was out of breath. Not that it was bad, though. It was soothing in a way.

"I feel you on that," You chuckled as well, "I swear, I've lost more brain cells just by not talking than I have listening to my advisors' bull shit."

"Burn out comes so much faster if you don't share your thoughts."

The conversation seemed to reach it's end. You wanted to talk more, but there was nothing to talk about. You'd already shared the only similar interest you two seemed to have. It was late, and you two had to make a plan and travel in the morning. It would be a good idea to sleep.

"So. Where do you think we should go?" He spoke up.

"I have no idea," You said, truthfully, "I don't even know where we are right now."

"Fair enough," He sighed, "I shouldn't have expected you to have an answer."

He stood up and left. No goodnight, no goodbye, he just started down the hall to his bedroom.

'Really?'  You  thought. 'He's just gonna walk off like that?'

You knew he would have some impolite tendencies, but you didn't think he'd just abandon a conversation. Did he always do that with people? How rude. That would get annoying fast. You couldn't believe that anyone who did stuff like that could make and keep friends unless that were just as rude as him, and judging by the limited knowledge you had about Will, they were not.

You decided that, if he was going to go to bed, you would too. Why waste your time thinking about him when you could get some much needed rest?
