reluctantly, the girls took the boys into the woods again. they came up with a plan that if the boys even stepped foot in the direction of the gate, they'd use their powers to change the compasses so they'd go in the opposite direction.

they knew if they found out they would be pissed, but it was only to keep them safe and that was all that mattered to the twin sisters.

"how much further?" lucas sighed, his feet were aching.

"i don't know. these only tell direction, not distance. you really need to learn more about compasses." dustin scolded his friend.

"i'm just saying. how do we know when we get to the gate?" lucas pressed on.

"uh, i think a portal to another dimension is gonna be pretty obvious." dustin said, matter-of-factly.

that was what the girls were nervous about, them finding it. stepping foot into the alter dimension, that was like home but not like home at all.

they didn't want them to die. so, they'd do anything to prevent that from ever even happening.

even if the boys hated them afterwards.

the girls hated themselves for wasting their little bit of energy they had to be able to emit the powers they had and the boys well you would know why the boys would consider hating them.

but they couldn't think of the negatives right now. they had to protect the boys and so that was exactly what they were doing.

saving them.

saving them from everything that tried stepping in their way.

lucas was watching the girls, who was staring at the ground as they walked deeper into the woods.

of course, he had to make a comment about it. it was what he did best.

"do you think they're acting weird?" lucas murmured to dustin.

dustin eyed him before going; "you're asking if the weirdos are acting weird?"

ouch. that hurt.

eve was starting to consider dustin as a friend. guess not anymore..

"i mean, weirder than normal?" lucas rephrased.

"i don't know. who cares?" dustin shrugged.

the girls minds' started to drift, thinking back to a time when they ventured to the upside down.

the time they saw what will was seeing.

the dark. the scary. death.

"how far, papa?" el had asked.

the girls had on white suits and a oxygen mask over their heads.
