they help get the girls out from the pool, handing them both towels and a jacket belonging to the chief himself. they then have them sit up on the bleachers, for them to rest.
el had her head laying on mike's shoulder, while lucas was making sure both of the girls were covered up to keep warm.
his change in attitude made the girls grateful considering the situation they were currently in.
wet. cold. and traumatized.
eve was busy biting her nails, her eyes glistening with tears.
"so this fort. where is it?" asked the chief.
"uh, it's in the woods behind our house." joyce answered him.
"yeah, he used to go there to hide." said the boy who they assumed was will's older brother.
the chief then goes to leave, with joyce and her son following.
he stopped them, telling them to get back inside.
"what, are you insane? no, i'm-"
"look, if something happens to me, i don't make it back-" now it was joyce's turn to cut him off.
"yeah, but then i'll go. you stay." she insisted.
"are you kidding me?" was all he could say.
"he's my son, hop. my son. i'm going! (she then turned to her son, beginning to talk to him now.) now, listen, i need you to stay here..." joyce's voice trailed off.
hop that's a strange name. i mean not as strange as eleven and twelve. so i guess there was that.
"no." her son declined.
"...and watch over the kids." she continued.
"no, mom." he said again, denying her request. "i can help." he included.
"please, i need you to stay, jonathan." joyce begged.
"joyce!" hop yelled.
"please." joyce pleaded.
"joyce, come on!" hop yelled again.
she then left the school, going with hop to rescue her youngest son.
everything was going to be okay.

the boys couldn't find them anywhere. the girls could care less, right now. they were hungry. so, the only thing that was on their minds was food.
