The court room was the place where the grieving families of the victims finally get their justice, to finally be in peace to know that the person who caused them harm and pain would be behind barsㅡ to have a punishment.
A trial was supposed to bring justice.
And when the judge wasn't able to deliver that, the reaction and responses of the families who's tears were rolling down their faces were understandable. Who wouldn'y be upset to know that the person who ruined them and their family wasn't behind bars, suffering the consequences of their actions?
"The court has recieved a message from the jury," The man on the podium announced, pounding the gavel on the wooden block to have everyone's attention. He stares at every person present, "Indicating that they have reached the verdict."
The young girl not older than eleven sat in the defendant's table, clad in dark grey slacks and a blouse, her pink and black hair neatly put up with gel and bobby pins to avoid hiding her faceㅡ a blank, emotionless expression that no one could read in the slightest. No guilt, no empathy, no regret, no joy.... nothing. Nothing but a blank face many couldn't help but to feel intimidated by.
It's been about eight months since the murder of Aika Zaitsu and Rem Shimura, and during that time, Yuju had gone in and out of trial twice in hopes to connect her to the crime.
Though the prosecution continued to insist on her guilt, there was no DNA, no firearm, and no forensic evidence presented linking Yuju Itadori to the murderㅡ much to everyone's surprise and dismay.
The judge turned his head to look at the child, a stern expression on his face as he stared at her. "If the defendant will please stand."
Yujuㅡ and the two lawyersㅡ stood up from their seats, the eleven year old as quietly as possible without letting as so much as a sound of the leg of the chair scratching on the polished wooden floor. Her expression remained indifferent, with her hands clasped in front of her and her back straight, she stared at the judge with an unsettling gaze.
The judge took the papers on his desk, skimmed through them before finally speaking. "In the district court of Tokyo, Japan, the state of Japan versus..."
His eyes met Yuju's threatening stareㅡ a warning to what he was going to say next. He, almost instinctively, looked at the stands as well, making eyes contact with the brown eyes of an old man who sat beside a teenage boy who's hair resembled the child in the defendant's table. He, too, stared intently at him, but with much more plead than threat.
