"I'm pregnant,"

I tell Hamish as he looks up from his desk at the Crimson clinic where I had caught him off guard. Holding Lily on my hip as I gave him an exasperated look, at my witts end with the morning sickness as well as Casper's stupidity. He still doesn't know so I decided to hide it until I knew everything was okay with the baby because I don't want to break his heart.

But it's been over a week and I'm couldn't keep down a slice of toast if I tried. As much as I would like to avoid Hamish at all costs, I can't do this anymore.

"Already? All of your kids are going to be under a year old. Are you ready for that?" Hamish mentions as he clears his desk and Lily hums with her stuffed tiger in her little hands.

"That was the plan and who are you to judge me? At least I didn't abandon them," I mention and Hamish groans. Nodding to the exam table in the back of the room as he closed the door behind me.

"You still haven't let me explain what happened. God, you're so stubborn you remind me of your mother," Hamish sighs and I roll my eyes.

"Why do you think her name is Lily? Huh, baby girl? Remember he might be a good grandfather but he's was a pretty shitty father," I explain to my daughter and her wide heterochromia eyes stare back at me in shock as she absorbs everything I'm saying.

"Mama!" She agrees and I tickled under her chubby chin. Although her speech is incapable of expressing her feelings for the moment, due to her high godly intelligence we've been warned by Elder Mason that she's absorbing every little detail with photographic memories.

"Hey, don't slander my name in front of one of my precious grandbabies, especially this one since she actually understands. If she wasn't going to be alpha, I would train her in medicine immediately. Shame," Hamish coos as he kisses the top of Lily's black head of hair while bouncing on my lap.

"Tora, your mother and I had you and your brother out of a mated partnership. We were mated to separate people. She was supposed to be with a woman in Lotus and I with another woman. But then she found out she was pregnant and rejected her mate. She didn't tell me anything, she thought she could do it by herself," Hamish explains as I lay down with Lily beside me and she snuggles into my chest.

"After she died, I was a mess. I had planned on ending my life, therefore I left you two to live your happy lives and would you look at that, both of you turned out just fine," Hamish adds to his shortened summery. A part of me wants all the nitty-gritty details but I decide to leave it be for now.

"Well, I don't know if Xora is 'fine', although he would tell you otherwise. I'm worried about him, after the miscarriage Jace told him some fucked up thing about how maybe he just wasn't meant to be a mother and of course he believes it," I spill my brother's tea to our shared sperm donor and Hamish squeezes the doppler in his hand, pausing to take a deep breath before connecting it to his tablet.
