"You need shoes Kiem,"
"No, I don't want to wear shoes daddy, they confine my soul!"
Kiem argues as I started to dress our five babies for the Ai No Shiro in their bedroom. The light blue walls of Kiem and CJ's shared bedroom were broken up by the random splotch of white plaster where Casper and I had patched up the tunnels they created. Deciding it would be best to repaint after they left to Antum since it would be hard to keep them out while it dried. Micah wanted to repaint the baby nursery from a light gray to yellow so we figured we would kill two birds with one stone.
"Kiem, I know socks and shoes can be uncomfortable but it's only for a few hours okay? And you can take them off as soon as we leave, I promise," I tell him and he pouts just like Tora, crossing his arms with a huff.
"But they're ugly, where's the style?" He asks and I blink a few times as I stare at the glitter-covered gold slippers and sigh.
"Okay they're a little ugly, but since you and all of your siblings are going to wear them you can all be ugly together," I compromise and his sparkling gray eyes hold onto their original beliefs.
"I don't know about you, but I don't want to be ugly daddy," Kiem continues and I sit back on my ass after crouching for so long thinking this would just take a few moments. I was handling Kiem last while the other babies were being looked over by Micah and Tora.
"How's it going in here?" Casper asks as he leans against the doorway, looking slightly pail with a bottle of water in hand.
"Daddy's trying to make me ugly," Kiem quickly accuses and I point the shoe at him.
"Shoes don't make you ugly, you know what makes you ugly? Being a bad person," I go off on a completely different subject with the best intentions but little Kiem takes it to heart.
"Are you saying I'm a bad person because I don't want to put on shoes?" Kiem quickly brings on the fake tears and I look to Casper for help.
"No baby boy, Daddy was trying to say it's not the shoes that make you ugly, it's who you are on the inside. And who you are on the inside Kiem, makes you beautiful no matter what you're wearing," Casper quickly covers for me in better words and I rub the bridge of my nose from the stress.
"Mmm, what your Papa said, now please Kiem. Just put on the shoe so Daddy and Papa can go get changed too," I ask and Kiem still wears a frown but snatches the slippers from me as he puts it on.
I stand up from the floor, joining Cas at the doorway as he takes a sip of water and I start to worry about him.
"Are you okay?" I ask and Cas quickly nods.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I think I'm just coming down with something is all. I got super dizzy and nauseous all of the sudden," Cas groans and I gently tilt his chin up to look him over and see if I can find anything else off about him.
