CHAPTER 3

IRENE

'They were all wonderful, sweetie. We went to a spa last week as Jisoo and Chaeng's gift to us after their month-long vacation and preparation in Australia. The Kim's Company sweetie will be extended in Australia. They miss you terribly, and we miss you as well. Particularly her. She is missing you.' My Mom said on the other end of the phone because I called her to talk, but I ignored what she said, particularly about her.

"How is my nephew doing?" Instead, I asked her and attempted to change the subject.

'Oh. Jaehee and Liam are absolutely adorable. They are lovely boys who are also geniuses. Champagne is also a wise young lady. She's like a miniature Chaeng.'

"Then Jisoo will be her undoing. Chaeng's attitude can be quite amusing at times HAHAHA. Isn't it true that the twins will be two in a few months?" I said this when I realized the twins would be the same age as I would be during my stay in Italy.

'They are, sweetie. Are you going to return home after that? You have three months before your contract expires, sweetie.'

Sighing, I didn't know what to say because I had told my two bosses that I would be staying here for two months again to exchange the months that I had used for Cairo's birth. Even though they wouldn't let me pay for it, I wanted it and decided to stay for another two months.

"Yeah." That's exactly what I said. "Dad, where is he?" I added for not being able to expand on the topic of my return home.

'He's working on his office about the expenses on your restaurant even though it's late at night.' She responded.

"Okay. Tell him I miss him as well, and don't overwork himself. I don't want to get a phone call at midnight because of him. He is interfering with my rest time, Mom." On the other end of the phone, I yelled something that made her laugh.

'Why don't you want to stay in a hotel or other condo for the sake of your safety and the environment?'

"Mom. We did talk about it, didn't we? You know what Lisa is capable of. She is well-connected. In addition, some other condominiums and hotels are a scam due to the gold-like prices of their units. We're safe here, Mom, even though it's a simple house, and we've been here a long time, so we don't need to go anywhere else. The landlady is gracious to us." I responded by trying to persuade her once more.

She keeps telling me to go to the condominium or any hotel in town, but I ignore her even though the restaurant is at its peak. Aside from that, I'm more at ease here, and the landlady reminds me of Nay Silvia and Mommy, who always have my back.

'You're a very stubborn and hardheaded person, Bae Joo-Hyun. If your decision is the same as your father's, I'll support it as long as you're safe and okay.' That she said made me chuckle for a second. 'Okay. Then I'll have to hang up this call. Take a break. I understand it's your day off. Your friends, by the way, want to kill you because you don't text or call them. They want your phone number, but I've never given it to them.' She added.

I laugh for the second time. "All right, Mom, rest up, and thank you for protecting us." I stated.

'I am your mother, and it is against my will to tell them what happened to you, but I must do so. I'll let you fix it, but keep in mind that I'm always here to support you and have your back. You don't really want their phone number? Especially the first two. Jennie and Chaeng,' she says.

Maybe it's time for me to call them and tell them I'm going to be late. It is preferable to devise a method to make it easier, as I have missed them. A great deal. I'd like to have some more company. My best friends are missing from my life.
