"Do you have any books on magic, or Magic Crystals?"
Sirius blinked for a moment as he thought about my question. "Are you really that curious about magic?"
I nodded my head as I looked down at my feet, a small smile on my face. "I've always wanted to believe in magic, since I believed that it existed somewhere out there. Maybe not in my land, but somewhere. And now, I've got magic right here, so I really want to find out more about it."
Sirius sighed, right as we reached his office. He held the door open for me, closing it mostly as he walked to a bookshelf. "Here," he said, handing me a hardcover book that had the title 'Magic Casting for Dummies'. "I can't guarantee that you'll even learn much, but it's a start."
I hugged the book to my chest, beaming up at Sirius. "Thank you, Sirius!"
He nodded his head, ruffling my hair gently. "Just don't stay up too late, got it?"
"I promise if you promise!" I held out my pinky with a challenging gaze. Sirius raised an eyebrow, but hooked his pinky through mine anyways.
"Fine by me."
"Well then, I'll head back to my room. Cya!" I waved bye to Sirius as I skipped to my room happily. I had a full battery and a full stomach. Time to study some magic spells!
In my room, I grabbed my journal and started reading. I read late into the night, writing down some notes into my diary, copying some spells in. I tried to do a simple levitation spell, but I barely lifted my eraser up into the air before it collapsed.
Either my magic was too weak, or I just really can't do much right now. Probably because I can't do much. Lancelot's spell really had a lot of force behind it.
But even as it frustrated me, trying and failing to complete the most basic spells, I refused to go to bed without at least lifting my eraser into the air for more than a minute.
"47, 48, 49," I counted under my breath as I watched the eraser in the air twist and turn, this way and that. Almost there. Keep it steady. When it started to fall, I frowned in concentration, and the eraser floated back up. "59, 60!"
Pushing my chair back slightly, I raised my arms up in glee. I was about to shout hooray until I remembered that it was still dark out. I looked outside, only to find that the sun was starting to rise.
I let out a sigh, running a hand through my hair. I didn't expect myself to stay up so late. But I guess I can still get a few minutes of sleep if I go to bed now. I bookmarked my page, closed the book, and slid my journal into the secret slot inside the bed frame. And with that, I crawled into the covers yet again, closing my eyes and snoring off into dreamland.
*~*
I rubbed my eyes with a yawn as I walked into the courtyard where everyone was gathered. One of the soldiers came into my room to wake me up. We were supposed to meet here at eight o'clock, but I guess Sirius forgot to tell me or something.
"Hello," I said, walking over to the said man. "What's going on? Is there something I should do?"
The courtyard was filled with eager soldiers, all in the Black Army uniform, some chatting, others... fighting? I hope this was only for practice.
"Good morning," Sirius said when he saw me. "For now, you're in charge of this. Go sit on that bench over there." Sirius pointed to a bench off to the side.
I nodded my head curiously as I skipped over, plopping down and looking at what was inside. There was a sandwich and a thermos in the bag, and I pulled them out with a smile.
"Thanks," I called to Sirius. He waved casually in response and went to talk to the other soldiers.
Now, I know this isn't really lady-like of me, but I crossed my legs, holding my ankle with one hand, my sandwich in the other as I rocked back and forth, watching everyone.
It was a pastrami croissant sandwich, and was absolutely to die for. I need to get Sirius to teach me to make this one day! Other than the sandwich, there were some fresh fruits. Strawberries, apples, and blueberries. Really delicious. And the thermos was filled with some tea, warm and sweetened.
I munched happily on my food as Seth and Fenrir came over.
"Good morning, Alice," Seth said. I've gotten a bit more used to being called Alice. Who knows, maybe I'll officially change my name to that.
"Good morning," I smiled.
"It really is perfect weather for fighting, huh," Fenrir asked as he looked at the soldiers. "I can't wait to show you how cool I look on the battlefield!"
I giggled slightly. "I'm sure you look awesome, Fenrir!"
"Is that your breakfast?" I turned to see Ray come over along with Luka. "You look exhausted. Did you sleep at all last night?"
I bit my lip, leaning my head forwards. Right, it was still in a ponytail. I guess I can't hide in it this time. "Um, yeah," I said quietly, already feeling the guilt of the lie sinking into me. "Yeah, it was good."
Ray frowned at me worriedly, but Luka brushed it off.
"You're just a natural early riser," he said to Ray. "Of course she looks tired, it's been a few long days for her."
"Yup," I chirped, happy to change the topic. "So, what's going on? Sirius only told me to sit here and have breakfast."
"No need to explain," Fenrir smirked. "Just sit back and watch the show."
The show? I tilted my head to the side quizzically.
"Hey, once you guys are done saying 'hello,' we're ready to get started!" It was Sirius. Wait, fighting? Is Sirius gonna fight?
