As I wandered through my land of dreams, I smiled at the scenery. It was beautiful, one of my fondest memories of my home realm.
Me, my mother, and my father were all having a happy picnic together, without a care in the world. This was my dad's first time visiting the Land of Magic, and it sure wasn't going to be the last.
Or so we hoped.
A smile still on my face, I shook my head from my dark trail of thoughts. I can't let myself get distracted right now. One bad thought and this whole memory will come tumbling down. And I'd rather have some fun here in the realm of wonders.
I sat down under a nearby oak tree, eyes closing as I remembered the moments and words I had spoken at this time. The air was warm on my skin, but the shade kept me cool. The grass was soft underneath my bare fingers, and the bark of the tree was rough against my back. I could hear the faint whistling of birds and the grass rustling under me.
"Mum, dad," little me had called out. Her coppery red hair gleamed in the afternoon sunlight as she bounced around, amber eyes wide. "Big brother! Come play!!"
My older brother smiled down at me, getting up from where he was reading a book. Even though we were still half siblings and almost look nothing alike, him having his father's white hair and our mom's amber eyes, he still cared for me like a doting older brother.
"What do you want to play, Embers," he asked, using the nickname he had called me since the day I was born.
"Hide and seek," the tiny version of me shouted, even though it was a clear meadow without any good places to hide.
My brother chuckled, ruffling my hair gently as he smoothed my rumbled pink dress.
"Okay then, Em. I'll count to a hundred, and you find a good place to hide, alright?"
"Okay, Amon!"
My eyes still closed, I remembered how frustrated I was when I couldn't find any good places to hide, even though I was the one who suggested playing hide and seek in the first place.
So, I did what any good child with magic did. I used magic.
It was a simple spell my brother had taught me behind my mom and dad's back, since they didn't want me to get hurt or lose my life playing with magic. But with my half Cradle, half Earth existence, my magic will automatically repel itself if it gets dangerous. Like a safety switch.
So, I dropped to the ground, staying as silent and still as I could as I focused on my magic, pulling in tiny bits to weave a little blanket, covering me completely from view. I peeked up to make sure my brother couldn't see me as I hid.
But suddenly, the calm dream changed.
I blinked my eyes open with a frown. Normally, I have complete control over my dreams. Lucid dreaming. Yet I didn't think of any bad thoughts, so what gives?
I pushed myself up from my sitting position, only to find that my hand came away, covered in ash. The tree that I was leaning on was gone, replaced by a giant marble tower that was crumbling down in the flames that licked it's base.
I held a hand out towards the flames, and could feel the heat of them as they flickered back and forth, dancing in the wind.
With my brow furrowed, I looked around this whole place. It was the Magic Tower, wasn't it? I vaguely remember seeing it on my old trips to Cradle, before my mother and brother got trapped there. But... what happened?
I looked up at the sky filled with ash and embers, a full moon barely visible through the clouds of smoke.
Hearing a familiar voice that I longed for every night, I ran to the center of the chaos. Soldiers in black and blue uniforms, along with soldiers in white and red ones lay on the ground, some motionless, others running away. All severely wounded and injured.
Smack dab in the middle of the fire and blood was a man in purple and black robes. His back was to me, so I could only see the glint of his white hair, glowing yellow in the fires, but I could recognize that form anywhere. Even if it's been years since I last saw it.
The man turned around, but instead of the familiar amber eyes that matched mine, I was met with a pair of pitch black ones, cold, emotionless. Cackling like a maniac, filled with excitement at the destruction they had caused.
I froze as the unfamiliar eyes bore into mine, looking right at me.
Out of the blue, the black eyes shifted to an amber hue, this pair of orbs filled with pain and regret. Grief clouded the man's features and tears started streaming down.
Help me, he mouthed as he flickered from black eyes to gold. Help me, Embers.

A/N:
Hai! Thank you so much for checking out this terrible story. I wrote this a long time ago and only finally now stopped being such a pussy and posted it. If there are any typos or inconsistencies, just let me know! I'll be uploading as much as possible, probably once every week. Next update would be on Wednesday, check in to see if I've gotten another part up.
Also, sorry if it's a bit short. All the next chapters are at least 1000 words long, I think. Or close enough.
Word Count (not including A/N): 851
