Since I managed to do so much yesterday night, Imanaged to get a bit more sleep than usual, but it only made me even tired. I guess I got used to the three to five hour sleep schedule I planned for myself. Still, I woke up at first light like Siirus asked and headed to the kitchens to get to work!
Sirius frowned at me worriedly as I trudged in, still yawning and rubbing my eyes, pinching myself to stay awake. I even got myself a cup of coffee to keep me up, and I hate coffee! More likely since I forgot to get any sugar. And I never forget sugar.
"Are you alright," Sirius asked as I stumbled a bit, almost tripping over thin air.
"I'm fine," I yawned, taking a big gulp from my hot coffee. "Ouch!"
Sirius carefully took the burning hot liquid from me, placing it on the counter as he went to get a few sugar cubes. "Maybe you should sleep in today," he said as he quickly worked.
"No, no," I said. "I'm completely fine!"
I closed my eyes as I envisioned myself, all energized. I'm not sure if spells work like that, but it's worth a try.
Within a few seconds, I felt way better. Still a little bit tired though.
"So, what am I doing today," I asked, coming up beside Sirius. He handed me the coffee.
"Careful, it's still hot," he murmured before leading me to a bag of potatoes. "Do you think you can beat these guys into submission for me?"
"Yup," I said, taking the small knife from Sirius' hand. Don't get distracted, Emberlynn. Don't cut yourself. Don't be an idiot.
Sirius nodded at me. "Once you're done peeling, cut them into bite-sized pieces. They're going into a stew. I'll be back around lunchtime."
"Oki!"
I waved bye to Sirius as he left, carefully taking out the giant bag of potatoes and starting my peeling process. Halfway through, my mind started to wander as I repeated the same action over and over again.
Is anyone around? Maybe I can practice my magic again, or maybe I can try summoning magic into the empty stone. I'm closer to nature now, so we can try it out.
How long will it take though? Will it be obvious? Will anyone notice?
As I pondered to myself, I didn't realize that my peeling had gotten slightly more aggressive until I felt a sharp pain and a burning sensation on my fingertips.
"Ow," I muttered, looking down to see that I had cut myself. As expected. I sighed, sucking on my forefinger quietly, trying to stop the blood flow as I looked around for something to bandage it with.
Wait, this is a perfect time to try summoning an object! Simple teleportation. How about a roll of bandages in the hospital here? Well, more like a room with beds and nursing supplies.
I've never actually been in there, but I was hoping that my magic will still work this time. After a few wrong tries, I got a roll of bandages over, and I quickly got to work, wrapping my still bleeding finger.
I think I hit a tendon or something, one of those areas with a lot of blood. It really was bleeding a lot. I guess I could've tried to heal myself instead of teleportation, but I didn't want to accidentally infect my sound with magic or something. Plus, I can't really remember any healing spells. My brother never really taught me any, since he would always heal me himself.
Letting out a long sigh, I carefully sent the bandage back into the spot it was in before, getting back to the peeling. Suddenly, my eyes lit on a small bag inside the potatoes. I took it out and saw a note in the front, saying 'your morning snack.' Sirius must've gotten it for me.
I opened up the bag to find some delicious chocolate chip cookies, still slightly warm. I smiled happily as I munched on the cookies, continuing my careful process of peeling, dicing, and washing the potatoes.
Eventually, the whole sack was finished, and it was lunch time. I made sure to stuff my injured hand, my left hand, into my pocket as I went to get Sirius.
"Hey," I shouted, waving at the tall guy with my good hand. "I'm done with the potatoes! What's next, chief?"
Sirius smiled at me, handing me a small hand spade and a cardboard box. "I want you to tend to the flowerbeds next. If I ask anyone else, they'll just trample over everything. Don't worry, there are gloves inside for protection against the bugs."
I nodded my head as Sirius hurried away, watching his back disappear over the corner. I don't think he wants me to learn how to fight. I think he's trying to keep me busy with minimal tasks.
Looking inside the box, I smiled faintly at the giant cream puff and the note that came with it. 'An afternoon snack for you.'
And he's probably trying to keep me docile with treats. I have to admit, it would've worked if I wasn't on edge since my little cut with the knife.
I let out a sigh, ignoring the gloves as I went to weed the flowerbeds. I just have to watch my feet, make sure I don't stand on any insects, and make sure none of them get to me.
This is a good opportunity to try extracting magic from nature!
Popping the cream puff into my mouth, I went outside to work on my next task. Weeding the garden also gave me a good view of the soldiers, who were still training.
By the time I was done, the sun was starting to set. There weren't many weeds for me to pull out, but they really were sturdy, refusing to come out of the ground at all!
"Sirius," I asked after I had placed the supplies away. My hands were slightly red from all the grabbing, but it was fine!
Sirius was in the big study with the Black Army flag. I think he works here during the day, and goes to the other study at night.
"I'm done with the weeding," I smiled. "But there weren't many weeds anyways."
"Oh? That's good to hear," Sirius said.
"Anything else I can help out with," I asked, my fingers playing with the Magic Crystal in my pocket.
It was starting to gain some magic, after a long time of trying, I finally figured out the proper way to extract the magic from nature without harming anyone or anything. It's sure taking its sweet time though.
"Follow me." Sirius got up and led me to the lounge where some food was laid out. "Do you think you can taste test these," he asked.
"Mm, yeah," I murmured, leaning forwards to examine the food. Sirius was already almost out the door when I called out to him. "Wait, Sirius, I've got a question."
"Hm," he asked, his head popping back in. "Is something wrong?"
I looked into his worried eyes before sighing. "Actually, it's nothing. Don't worry about it." I fidgeted with my hands nervously as I turned around to look at the food. "Everything looks so delicious, do you want some?"
Sirius gave me a small smile before shaking his head. "I'm not that hungry." And with that, he was gone.
I rubbed my temples with a sigh, taking out the gleaming Magic Crystal from my pocket. I tossed it up and down, watching as the light fractured this way and that. I held my hand steady underneath the crystal and floated it into the air, my amber eyes glowing reddish in the light of the setting sun. Or maybe it wasn't the sun that was casting the glow.
I quickly caught the crystal and shoved it back into my pocket before anyone could see, turning to the taste testing I was supposed to be doing.
Sirius really wants to keep me busy, huh? I wonder if anyone else will be willing to properly teach me how to fight, or maybe I need to learn that from some books as well.
After I was done with the food, I headed to my own room to study. I'll get to Sirius later, for now, I need to find a more efficient way to gather magic. And perhaps learn a healing spell while I'm at it, I don't want him to notice my slight injuries and feel guilty.
