Not long after we arrived, the meeting was over. Everyone was leaving already.
The Red and Black Armies had certain ways of leaving. They left by rank, the closest to the exit, but me and Siirus stayed back, since Sirius was the Queen, afterall. And he looked like he wanted to talk to Lancelot.
Maybe they were friends? He did call him Lance on my first day here, but they seem to be on bad terms now. I hope they make it up though. Maybe over a nice cup of tea, and cake.
"Can I say something," Sirius asked once it was just the Queens and Kings left.
"The meeting is over," Jonah said. "What more is there to talk about?"
"I'm not speaking as a soldier." Sirius looked straight at Lancelot. "I'm speaking as an old friend. Lance, look at me."
I bit my lip and tugged on my hair nervously as the tensions rose. With my hand in my pocket, I played with the Magic Crystal, ready to use it if I really needed to. But I suppose my shield will be more handy.
Lancelot narrowed his eyes faintly when he heard what Sirius just said, but his overall expression didn't change. Still as cold and closed off as ever.
"How dare you," Jonah exclaimed. "Just because you were friends in school doesn't mean you can address our King so casually!"
"Sh," I said, patting Jonah's head across the table. "It's a nice day out, what harm can come out of staying just a little bit longer? Plus, isn't the sunset just beautiful?"
I smiled up at the bright pinks and purples that danced across the sky as the sun started to set. London was never this clear, and I never got to see the skies during dusk or dawn as brilliantly as I do here in Cradle. What a beautiful sight.
Jonah glared at me, slapping my hand off, but didn't say anything else.
"Take the lead, Star," I hummed as I sat back down.
"Star," Lancelot questioned as he glanced between the two of us.
"Oh, you know, Star! Sirius is technically a star in the sky, right? So Star! Or maybe I should call you Siri." But Siri sounds like the whole IPhone assistant lady, and that just feels weird.
Lancelot slowly nodded his head, eyes trailing back to Sirius, who was glaring at me playfully. I just batted my eyes innocently.
"Give us five minutes," Lance said to Jonah. "Don't worry, even if they're planning something, they won't be able to lay so much as a finger on me."
Not that we would in the first place, Lance.
"Just who is planning what here," Ray asked, getting defensive. "And why did you ask Emberlynn to attend!?"
Something akin to annoyance seemed to flash in Lance's eyes for a moment, before it was replaced by his cool facade yet again. His eyes slowly moved to me, but I felt as if they were piercing through me, piercing to something behind.
I shivered slightly as I only now noticed an unfamiliar presence of magic in the bushes, watching. Waiting. Who was that!? Why are they here!? They shouldn't be in the Garden, and does Lancelot know them!?
"I just want to see her one last time," Lancelot said. "I just want to memorize her features, so if she hinders our plan, I'll know who to eliminate completely."
I eyed Lancelot, my eyes darting around, trying to check behind me without seeming inconspicuous.
Dammit! What's going on Lance? What are you not telling? What are you not saying!? God, you're just like Sirius, forcing yourself to burden all the trouble. No wonder you two were such good friends.
