Sitting at a traffic light, Mary took deep breaths to calm her growing nerves. Going on a date with Bobby Brown is the very last thing she expected. If you had asked her weeks ago what she thought she would be doing, the first Friday of the school year, she would have given a simple answer. Watching a movie, on the couch, at home, and in her pink polka dot pajamas.
Instead here she is taking deep breaths. That's it, just deep calming breaths. She has to remember that she's a strong, confident, lovely young woman. Anyone would be happy to have her. Right? She needs to forget about today and enjoy this evening. Who knows, it may be the only chance she gets with Bobby. Which is a truly sad thought, so no more of that.
Before the light turned green, she glanced around. The sights, and sounds, of the boardwalk are spectacular. It makes her feel like she's a kid at the county fair again. The Ferris Wheel has always been a favorite ride, ever since then. That ride is a big MUST tonight. Who knows, she might even suggest going on Wipeout, if she feels adventurous. Gwen loves that ride. It's so high in the air. Then again, maybe not. Barfing on Bobby would be bad.
After driving around looking for a parking spot, she found one close to the pier. Sitting in the Jeep, she did a quick check of the makeup, and hair, in the mirror. Of course nothing was out of place. Ashley could teach a master class, using L'Oreal's stu-stu-Studio hairspray alone. She has mad skills. Feeling at ease, she changed into a pair of black heeled sandals. They were bought this afternoon, specifically to go along with the outfit.
Getting out, she zhuzhed her pants legs up to mid-calf. Glancing down, she made sure her shirt is tucked in all around. Ashley made her buy a multi-colored, geometric printed, sleeveless shirt. It's a fun shirt. It makes her feel fun too. Now ready, Mary grabbed her bag and made certain the Jeep doors are locked.
Biting her lip, her eyes looked around for Bobby. As she walked, she scanned the vehicles to see if she could spot either his bike, or car. She wasn't sure which he'd be driving, considering they never discussed where to meet. Which really sucks, because there's so many people here. How will she ever find him? Why didn't they talk about where to meet? Oh, well... she'll keep going and hope for the best.
Her head turned this way and that. By the new ride, Sling Shot, is where she spotted him. He stood tall, turned around looking at it. Since he hadn't noticed her, Mary took the time to admire him. He's dressed casually in jeans, with a fitted red striped polo. His hair is neat, but feathered as usual. Bobby Brown looks yummy, but he always does.
With careful, eager feet, Mary sauntered forward. As if sensing her presence, Bobby whirled around. He flashed a bright smile and advanced to meet her. She caught his eyes as they gave her a once over. She hopes he likes what he sees. But the heated looks he gives, alone, could melt butter. They always melt her insides.
"Hi," he greeted quietly. He wants to take her hand, but waits. then he told her, "You look spectacular by the way."
Giving him a smile of her own, she greeted him back. "Hi yourself. You don't look so bad either," she said with a sweet voice. Feeling brave, she gave him a saucy wink.
Running his tongue over his lips, he asked "So what do you want to do first?"
That's a great question. How does she answer? "I think food first. Then we could play arcade games until our food settles. Barfing all over each other would not make for a fun evening," she declared. Her eyes sparkled with fun.
Chuckling he said, "Too true." Tentative, he took her hand in his. She grasped back, giving it a squeeze of assurance.
Along the boardwalk there are many food vendors. There's so many it's hard to choose from. However, they settled on tacos on a stick, Southwestern flavored kabobs. Naturally Bobby wanted to pay. He's a true gentleman that way. However, Mary reminded him "You paid for my movie ticket. So, now I'm going to pay for our food." Which she did, even though he huffed. She's not taking no for answer though.
