Just 30 minutes outside of Encino Hills, is the quaint island community of Grand Bay. Grand Bay is known for it's charming Main Street, one-of-a-kind shopping opportunities, delectable upscale Mom and Pop restaurants, and various island festivals throughout the year. A short drive over the bridge, a right on Bay Street, and fourth house down lives Mary Margaret Grainger (and her cousin Lori Lane).

Situated in a comfortable, coastal manor home  Mary and Lori never have to want for anything. The  girls are truly blessed by their Aunts Kitty and Pitty. At  the age of 3 both sets of parents were killed  in a horrific car accident. With the grandparents out of the  picture, both Mary and Lori were taken in and raised by their loving aunts.

Mary and Lori may be family, but they are very different girls. Mary is confident, perky, enjoys ballet, and dreams of being class valedictorian (as soon as she defeats her academic rival Harris Cho). Lori is quiet, quirky, enjoys anything artistic-creative, and can seem a bit whimsical in thought. The one thing both Mary and Lori have in common is their friends. Their  wonderful group of girl friends.

Freshman year introduced Mary and Lori to 3 other unique girls. Ashley Tucker (an outspoken, adventurous girl), Gwen Fowler (a fellow ballet lover from a rival studio), and Gemma Carey (a fellow fashionista). The five became fast friends and have been inseparable ever since. Through thick and thin, there's nothing like strong friendships to help navigate the turbulent social waters of high school and life.

Luckily Mary's friends are one of the two popular girl groups, at West Valley High. The other popular group is the cheerleaders with Alli Mills. While Alli's group tends to  hang more with the "stupid snakes" of Cobra Kai, Mary's group tends to hang with the baseball and football boys. Mary's friends have no idea what those girls see in the snakes. Despite the fact they are cute, for the most part those boys seem to be loud, crude, un-academic, and always getting into too much trouble for their own good. Not to mention constantly bothering those who are "weak" (mainly the poor geeks).

Although they saw each other in class, never had the two groups hung out together. Until one day during the first week of Senior year. The script flipped that day and everything changed...
