*Author's Note: This chapter has brief mentions of drugs, and physical assault. The assault is not graphic in detail. This is first and foremost a romantic story. I do not write things of that nature, but I  felt it is true to life, and background of the character.*

Thursday began like any other Thursday... normal. The pleasant aroma of apples and cranberries filled the air, from the kitchen. It became clear Verbena is baking her famous Fall scones. Now properly motivated, Mary hustled even more.

It had been two weeks since she and Bobby confessed their love. Their relationship is stronger because of it. He felt freer and lighter. He even told her how he actually came to date the She-devil.

Poor drunk Bobby. We've all made terrible mistakes while drunk, but that one tops the list for sure. Even though his relationship hurt like Hell, he came out of it superior in the end. The  She-devil is currently dating Satan himself (her ex), and Bobby had an upgrade (as Johnny likes to say).

She grabbed two scones and headed out the door. Once at school, she spotted Bobby and greeted him with a light peck. "Hey Handsome. I brought this for you," she said handing him a scone.

He took a bite and exclaimed "It's fantastic, just like you." Her eyes sparkled at him like diamonds.

"So this afternoon I'm taking your sister home. I'll miss not seeing you, but I'm looking forward to Friday night," Mary told him. She swung his hand as he walked her to class.

He drew in a breath and let it settle. Then he remarked, "I'll miss you too. I wish our practices weren't so hectic at the moment. But it is what it is, right? Plus we'll see each other here and tomorrow night, at the country club dance." He gave her an adoring smile.

She returned his smile with one of her own. "Your smile kills me, not literally, but it makes your eyes shine and I love it," she announced with gusto.

Bobby blushed as red as a cherry. "So tomorrow night just you and me, at the dance. I know you're going to look smokin' in your dress." He kissed her cheek and ran off, to his first period Spanish class.

After school, Mary waited at her locker for Samantha. She overheard several Senior girls talking about "a killer party tonight at Kai's house". Mary shuddered. She knew all about those parties, from first hand experience. Thank goodness she's not part of the whole jock scene anymore. Bad things, bad things...

"Hey Mary I'm here now. Thanks for taking me home," Samantha said. She carried a pink, plastic jelly bag. The jelly bag was labeled Teen Beat's "it" bag of the month. As Mary and Ashley like to say "barf to trends".

One thing Mary's realized about Bobby's sister is she's a follower. She wears all trendy clothes and has all the trendy things. She needs to know all the school gossip too. But there's one thing that bothers Mary the most. Sam tries much too hard to be more "grown up" than she actually is.

Lately she's seen Sam cozying up to this Junior jock. That shouldn't be a problem, except she knows this guy is one of her ex's friends. It's just asking for trouble of all sorts.

She's wanted to talk to Bobby about this. However, every time she tries the words get tongue tied in her mouth. Besides she doesn't want to create problems (for her, Bobby, or Sam).

"Great we can get going," Mary said. She closed her locker and began walking towards the  parking lot.

Sam began chatting her ear off. "So did you hear? There's a huge party tonight. Are you going? Even if Bobby won't be there, you should still go. It'll be tons of fun."
