It was the beginning of August
By the sea, crowded with strangers,
Salty breeze on my cheeks,
The sun marking my skin with summer.
My feet burning by the sand
As I watch the waves and the horizon,
Wondering how with all these people,
I am standing here alone. As if my thoughts were wishes
And the gods have listened to me,
You came, by chance or by fate
And stood by my side facing the sea.
No, I didn't notice you immediately
But I felt warmer despite the sun,
Until our eyes meet in a heart beat,
Despite the breeze, I come undone. For a moment we shared something,
We were something by this shore,
Tracing our names on the sand,
Building castles, building some more,
Turning shared stories into salty secrets,
Blown by the breeze to the far ocean. But before I noticed the in coming waves,
The castles we built, the names we traced
Our 'something' were washed away.I turned to you but you weren't there,
You may as well have been made of sand.
So my eyes stared into the sea once more
Like everything else the way it was before,
Only I wasn't wondering why I am alone,
I was thinking, how with all these people,
It has to be you who came along.
