CHAPTER THREE

ALEC’S POINT OF VIEW (ALEC’S CHAMBERS)

 

I don’t get why I have to move rooms again. The princess is strong enough to protect herself. I and my cousin Isaac used to have our rooms on the ground floor back in California. All the guard’s rooms are supposed to be on the ground to the second floor. But ever since, the princess came back, Isaac and I were appointed to move to the chambers next to the room of Katherine’s. Her room is between mine and Isaac.

I got into my room exhausted, after dropping of Katherine, the king ordered me and Isaac to train with him and we had to spar with him.

I lay on my bed forcing my eyes to rest, I was too tired to take off my shoes and I dozed off in a second.

Why is it getting hard to breathe in here, I got up to see smoke, thick black smoke entering from below the door, I got out of bed, the floor was warm, so warm. “Alec!” mother! I ran out the room to see the house was on fire, I ran to find my mother and found her in her chambers, and half of her body was buried under the wooden drawer that had tumbled over.

“Son, don’t. You have to get out of here, go find your father, you have to help him, son. He is with Albert, the rogues have come.” Tears were falling making it hard for me to see, “I’m not leaving you mother, I can’t. I don’t even know how to fight!”

“Just go son. The house is going to collapse, this drawer is too heavy, son. You haven’t shifted yet, you won’t have the strength, now go please. And remember that I love you and your father.” She kissed my forehead, “I love you too, mom.” She wiped off my tears, “go, now!” and with that I ran out of the house.

Isaac came running towards me. “Cousin, we have to find our fathers. We have to help them!” He nodded and we ran through the village to find our fathers. The rogues were everywhere, the pack were fighting, the children  were all grouped in one place crying as they saw what was happening, I heard a boom and I turned to see that my house had finally collapsed and a few seconds later I heard a very loud howl and I knew it was my father, he must have felt the loss of my mother.

Isaac and I ran towards the howl to find my father and Albert fighting side by side fending off five wolves. One of them was a grey one with a scar on his face. Kevin! My father must have sensed me nearby, “Son, hide by the bushes, don’t come out, Isaac is with you, take care of him. Don’t come out no matter what happens!”

The grey wolf shifted back into human form and spoke, “You two must be Fox and Zink, I have heard of your family, you are very important to the royals, I can tell, but why are you here instead of being beside the princess? Ohhh yeah… she’s with her mother am I right? Your king isn’t coming to protect this village, let’s just say he is having his hands full at the moment. And I guess he left two royal guards to protect a big village?” he laughed.
