Kakashi laid next to his wife quietly, not even sure where to start. She looked as if she had finally broke. The last couple of years had been hard. The Hokage title, the Konoha Head of Medicine position, and their four beautiful children. They were exhausted. But her beloved master's death might be too much on an already tired soul.
She had been inconsolable during Lady Suoh's funeral, sobbing into Kakashi's shoulder in the front as he held her close. She was sobbing so hard that the shoulder of his funeral uniform was soaked. They were hugged by nearly everyone at the service; the crowd was a sea of familiar faces. She pulled it together near the end of the gathering, but when they reached their room at the Inn, she flopped forward on the bed and curled up in a fetal position.
Reaching out, he took her hand, but he was surprised when she pulled away, turning over and grabbing the pillow from under her head. Putting it over her face, she let out a scream of anguish. And then another. And another. He couldn't do anything but rub her back, wanting to cry as well.
She was so tired. They both were.
She screamed for what felt like an eternity, even though it was only a few minutes. She lent limp, and he rolled her back over, holding her.
"I know Z. It's a lot. I know you're tired."
"I'm such a bad mom!"
"No, you're not."
"Yes I am! I felt guilty because part of me was relieved to get a few days away from my beautiful life in Konoha. I love my family and my job, but I'm so tired. And I shouldn't be complaining to you because you have to be more tired than I am."
"They're getting older. Soon, the boys will be in the Academy and the girls will follow suit-"
"And I'm going to miss these years! But I'm too tired to enjoy them!"
He shushed her gently.
"I promise to take over on you more overnight dates. We have to fix this. I love you, Z, and I can't stand to see you like this."
He kissed her gently.
"Take a nap; it's still early. When you wake up, we can go to the co-ed hot spring."
***
Kakashi helped his wife into the spring lovingly, taking her hand and wrapping an arm around her thighs, lifting her in. She laid against his chest as he held her, wading through the spring.
She was waking up from her long nap, yawning and watching him sleepily.
"Did you sleep, Kakashi-kun?"
"A little. I was too worried about you. I mostly laid there and kissed your shoulders and back while you slept. Your skin tasted so good. I'm so tired of secret, quiet sex in my office and secret, quiet sex at home, and quickies wherever we can fit them in. I want to explore your body with my mouth and hear you scream my name as you cum. I laid there and dreamed about you."
"Kakashi..."
"I miss us, Z."
He could feel the tears burning his nose.
"Me too."
She picked her head up and gazed into her eyes.
"I need you, Kakashi."
"I'll always need you, Mizuka."
He rolled over to her and cupped her face in his hand, kissing her slowly and gently. Her kiss still sent chills down his spine and made his body hum with energy. The spark, the excitement, the love was still there. It always had been; but they already knew that. There was never a doubt that it wasn't. Things just weren't as contained as they used to be. Life had spilled over into their private time, and while he wouldn't change a thing about their life together, it didn't make things any easier.
